#735 - Thinking Outside The Bucks
June 30, 2016, 9:48 p.m.
A more personal show than usual, which I hope will prove an appealing contrast to the crimes of the Deep State. We return to a familiar theme of this show, the importance of following our heart, of working for love not money. A range of speakers, some new, some old, combine to challenge our ideas of self, of what it means to be a human, and of what we might achieve if we align our heads and hearts. We conclude with the vision of Chris Larcombe, who realized during his Ph.D in epigenetics that he was more interested in creating a moneyless system of interaction which would allow people, en masse, to better coordinate and help realize one another's dreams.

Gemma Bulos: Turning A Drop Into A Wave
June 30, 2016, 2:04 p.m.
If you're listening to this broadcast, the chances are you can get clean drinking water right from your kitchen sink. But much of the world's population does not have that luxury. In rural sub-Saharan Africa, the World Health Organization estimates that only about half of the population has access to clean water, and only 23% have access to hygienic sanitation facilities. The burden of this problem falls disproportionately on women and girls who literally carry the water for their communities. Our guest this week on Sea Change Radio is Gemma Bulos, the Executive Director and co-founder of an organization that works to solve the problem by empowering women as technicians and community leaders who build and sustain water-access technology. Bulos explains how the Global Women's Water Initiative builds capacity, the connection between water access and girls education, and the story of how she arrived at this world-changing work.

From Brexit to Presidential Campaigns: It is Time to Build Progressive Movements
June 28, 2016, 8:04 p.m.
Glen Ford argues we should take heart from the evident crisis of the capitalist elites that has led to the Brexit referendum. The European Union is a cartel that places heavy demands on its members and takes total advantage of less wealthy countries and of former colonies. Britain's leaving should be seen as an opportunity for the socialist movement. In the US Bernie Sanders has attracted a following that he hopes to bring into the Democratic Party, however there are many signs that the new militant forces that grew from Occupy Wall Street and Black Lives Matter are not easily controlled and that now is the time to build new social democratic parties to transform the country.
American Nuremberg - The U.S. Officials Who Should Stand Trial for Post-9/11 War Crimes
June 28, 2016, 7:17 p.m.
To this day the people of the United States have no accounting of what has been done in our names in the so-called war on terror. But we are left with ongoing misery for literally millions of people, destabilized regions in the Middle East, South East Asia, North Africa and blow-back and spill over into Europe. And it is extraordinary how a small group of political leaders could have created such ongoing expanding devastation and has not been held responsible in any way.
Rebecca Gordon writes that for the sake of the victims of the war on terror we need real accountability for American war criminals. Her book, American Nuremberg, published by Hot Books at Skyhorse, NY-City, went into distribution in April 2016.
Rebecca Gordon teaches philosophy at the University of San Francisco. Her prior book: Mainstreaming Torture, was based on her PhD thesis in Ethics and Social Theory from the Graduate Theological Union in Berkeley, CA.
UNIFOR Local Launches Campaign to Save Historic GM plant
June 28, 2016, 6:57 p.m.
Local 222 of UNIFOR is ramping up its public campaign to get a commitment from General Motors to build a new product in Oshawa. The company is refusing to comment, while at the same time making plans to open plants in Mexico and China. GM received $10.8 billion from the Canadian and Ontario governments and was saved in the 2009 bailout, but has not hesitated to reduce the workforce and cut wages and benefits. UNIFOR and the community are determined to have a plant with a new product and a workforce with a secure future.
