Dimi Khalidi and Judith Butler on the nationwide epidemic of attempts to suppress Palestine advocacy
Feb. 22, 2016, 2:04 p.m.
As most people who are concerned about Israel's brutal, one-sided treatment of Palestine and Palestinians know, Zionists in this country have spread the idea that criticizing Israel is "antisemitic" and shouldn't be tolerated. To those who have adopted this fallacy, activists' increasingly successful campaign for BDS (boycotts, divestment, and sanctions) is nothing less than anathema, and must be stamped out decisively.
On the one hand Israel tries to make light of the BDS movement, but on the other hand it is going all out to oppose it. To that end, they have employed subservient officials and politicians to develop means to suppress or punish BDS efforts. Palestine Legal (palestinelegal.org) calls this program âThe Palestine Exception to Free Speech."
For our feature presentation today, we have an interview conducted by the Real News Network out of Baltimore of Dimi Khalidi of Palestine Legal and, representing Jewish Voice For Peace, Professor Judith Butler of the University of California, Berkeley.
Supporters of the BDS movement are now mobilizing to try to defeat the bills. In Maryland, activists say an anti-boycott bill a local Jewish group wanted to push for was defeated after the Freedom2Boycott coalition protested and lobbied against the measure. Some of the measures in other states have passed in the Assembly or Senate in a state, but have not yet been signed by the governors of the state.
In Massachusetts, where this show is made, similar Bill HD-4156 was sponsored by 25 state reps. It remains pending in Committee,
These measures are the latest line in a series of attacks the BDS movement has faced in state legislatures around the U.S. since 2014, when the American Studies Association passed a resolution in favor of boycotting Israel. Last year, twenty-two anti-BDS bills were introduced in U.S. legislatures.
One of the most alarming bills is being debated in New York, which became the first state to consider anti-BDS bills in 2014, but not the first state to pass a measure. (In May 2015, South Carolinaâs government became the first to pass legislation penalizing businesses that boycott countries South Carolina trades with. Boycotts of Israel were the clear target.)

Rev. Susie the Floozie's "The Mind 01" Show!
Feb. 21, 2016, 9:57 p.m.
I thought I had played this within living memory, but it was last unreeled in 2009. The classic "Mind 01" show from 1995 (BSTF #55) was the first episode I did with a mental theme--hence the title. In this updated, remixed version, we'll explore the ins and outs of the deranged and "Normal" minds as communicated through a mix of music and mental mayhem. Opens with Ed McMahon's bodice-ripping intro narration from the fucked-up hallucinatory psych-suspense fantasy DAUGHTER OF HORROR. The Amazing Dolores shows up to tell us to stop messin' with her mind, along with the Laika and the Cosmonauts, the Bizarros, Man on the Street Mal Sharpe, Katie Lee, Wazmo Nariz, the Queers, Zilch Fletcher, and a lot--a LOT--of other sonic crap.
How I Learned to Love the Occupation and Stop Resisting
Feb. 21, 2016, 9:49 p.m.
Promoted as a Human Rights expert, a specialist on the Israeli - Palestinian conflict, Mr. Eid spoke to a small audience at International House; the topic "A Palestinian Point of View".
To hear his message and know something of the history of Palestine, the ethnic cleansing of the native population, planned and executed prior to the formal founding of the State of Israel, the occupation and cultural genocide practiced by Israel against the Palestinians, the siege of Gaza and the
periodic attacks on a defenseless civilian population with the machinery of modern warfare is to experience cognitive dissonance. (note)
But to fathom the incongruity of Mr. Eid's discourse, one need look only to the sponsors of his speaking tour of the US; the Israeli government, Zionist foundations, and local chapters of National organizations working to legitimate Israeli occupation in Palestine as well as to also grasp the success that the BDS movement is having globally, but especially in the United States.
The much awarded "Human Rights Activist" Bassem Eidn castigated Palestinian leadership and the Palestinian people for their current plight, while lauding Israel for its efforts to rebuild the damage that resulted in Gaza, from the firing of rockets by Hamas into Israel. Mr Eid dismissed the BDS movement as being counter productive and harmful to Palestinians. He went so far as to dismiss the occupation itself
and suggest that Israel was a benefactor, supplying much that is visible in the market place today. What has happened to the "billions and billions" of dollars given to Gaza he asked, implying that endemic Palestinian corruption could account for so little to show.
Gaza had been, prior to its repeated bombing and blockade, almost self sufficient in meeting its domestic needs with local food stuffs and basics. That self sufficiency has been intentionally destroyed by Israeli bombing of manufacturing plants, the farms, the dairies, the greenhouses, the fishing fleet and much of the civilian infrastructure (water, sewage treatment, electrical generation) which has in effect made Israeli businessmen the beneficiaries of the International Aid directed to Gaza (at least 78 per cent of humanitarian aid intended for Palestinians ends up in Israelâs coffers.). notes
Profits and jobs now go to Israel as it is largely only Israeli consumer goods, food stuffs and materials that are allowed into Gaza; Israel controls all the boarders by force of death.
Destroying Gaza's industry and agriculture has been an economic opportunity for the Israeli settler economy.
An air of disbelief was evident among some in the audience
who did not realize that Mr. Eid was a paid shill for the Zionist occupation and colonial project.. The Q & A did not go well for the speaker or his handler; at least one person became angered by the "poison" he heard from Mr. Eid and was threatened with removal by authorities at the event, still he held his ground. Several questions from people identifying themselves as Jewish expressed confusion about or disagreement with his message. Though five people remained in line to ask questions, the program was cut short by the moderator who, prior to assuming the role of graduate student at the University of Chicago, was a Public Relations agent for the Israeli Army.
As the room was being emptied, several members of the audience were willing to comment on the presentation. Comments were also obtained from audience members who were standing outside, the last from someone who had been in line with a question at the time the program was abruptly terminated.

Breaking Loose: a conversation with Ron Sakolsky
Feb. 21, 2016, 12:34 p.m.
This week's episode features a conversation with Ron Sakolsky. Ron is a poet, an anarchist, a surrealist, a pirate radio broadcaster and author and more. Recently, Little Black Cart published a small book by Ron Sakolsky entitled Breaking Loose: Mutual Acquiescence or Mutual Aid? The essay is an anarcho-surrealist critique in which Ron levels a challenge to readers to move past (or break free) from the limitations we internalize from engaging with and within (as well as with others within) the systems of domination. In the conversation, Ron revisits the essay, breaks down some terminology and eggs the listener on to exercise their imagination and act from places of inspiration to apply direct action against the status quo. The book is available here: http://littleblackcart.com/books/anarchy/breaking-loose/
The essay it's built off of can be found in Modern Slavery #2: http://modernslavery.calpress.org/?p=367.
During the hour, we discuss that book, we chat about radio and Ron's 30 years of radio experience starting in college radio in IL, later involved in the pirate station called Black Liberation Radio, publishing and promoting the building of micro-broadcast transmitters, and currently with Radio Tree Frog in the forests of Coast Salish Territories AKA British Colombia. He contributed to and edited the titles Seizing The Airwaves: A Free Radio Handbook (AK Press, 1998) and Islands of Resistance: Pirate Radio in Canada (New Star Books, 2010).
But first this announcement:
From The International Coalition to Free The Angola 3 (angola3.org) we have some breaking news on Albert Woodfox, aka Shaka Cinque:
From Friday, April 19, 2016
"Just moments ago, Albert Woodfox, the last remaining member of the Angola 3 still behind bars, was released from prison 43 years and 10 months after he was first put in a 6x9 foot solitary cell for a crime he did not commit. After decades of costly litigation, Louisiana State officials have at last acted in the interest of justice and reached an agreement that brings a long overdue end to this nightmare. Albert has maintained his innocence at every step, and today, on his 69th birthday, he will finally begin a new phase of his life as a free man.
In anticipation of his release this morning, Albert thanked his many supporters and added: âAlthough I was looking forward to proving my innocence at a new trial, concerns about my health and my age have caused me to resolve this case now and obtain my release with this no-contest plea to lesser charges. I hope the events of today will bring closure to many.â
Over the course of the past four decades, Albertâs conviction was overturned three separate times for a host of constitutional violations including prosecutorial misconduct, inadequate defense, racial discrimination in the selection of the grand jury foreperson, and suppression of exculpatory evidence. On June 8th, 2015, Federal Judge James Brady ordered Albert's immediate release and barred the State from retrying Albert, an extraordinary ruling that he called âthe only just remedy.â A divided panel of the 5th Circuit Court of appeals reversed that order in November with the dissenting Judge arguing that âIf ever a case justifiably could be considered to present âexceptional circumstancesâ barring re-prosecution, this is that case.â That ruling was on appeal to the U.S. Supreme Court when news of his release broke.
On behalf of the Angola 3 - Albert Woodfox, Robert King, and in memory of Herman Wallace - we would like to sincerely thank all the organizations, activists, artists, legal experts, and other individuals who have so graciously given their time and talent to the Angola 3âs extraordinary struggle for justice. This victory belongs to all of us and should motivate us to stand up and demand even more fervently that long-term solitary confinement be abolished, and all the innocent and wrongfully incarcerated be freed.â

Black History Month: Huey P. Newton
Feb. 21, 2016, 12:18 p.m.
Back in the USSR continues its programming for Black History Month by paying tribute to the co-founder of the Black Panther Party, Huey P. Newton. A man who dedicated his life to the liberation of his people and refused to back down or be broken, even when he and his organization were faced with the full repressive apparatus of the American national security state. He was a revolutionary to the core of his being and was not afraid to resist a monstrous system that was intent on crushing him. Back in the USSR salutes this hero.
