Their journal, Modesto Anarcho ran from the mid 2000's through the mid 2010's. The album is based on 4 poems by Xu Lizhi, a poet and Chinese Foxconn employee who committed suicide on September 30th, 2014 and the content displays not only the alienation of depression in modern societies but that of the factory worker producing smartphones in a Chinese factory for Western consumers. Black History Month: Paul Robeson and James Baldwin

Feb. 7, 2016, 12:10 p.m.
Back in the USSR starts off Black History Month by celebrating the life, struggles, and careers of two African-American heroes: Paul Robeson and James Baldwin. Both of these brave men put their immense talents at the service of their people and fought against racism, fought against exploitation, and fought for the solidarity of oppressed peoples around the world. Through music and through writing they touched the lives of millions, and in the face of persecution they never backed down or fell silent. They showed the real power of the human spirit.

#414 -- Economics and Inequality, Part 1

Feb. 5, 2016, 8:31 p.m.
Economist Joseph Stiglitz shows that economic inequality in the US is bad, and it is getting worse. The causes are our dysfunctional style of capitalism and a political system that increasingly serves only the economic elite, not "the 99%." Our economic inequality is bad for democracy, bad for the U.S. economy, even bad for capitalism, Stiglitz argues. Stiglitz's talk is short on solutions, but it is an excellent, lucid, and very listenable survey of the problems we face--and their causes.

Paul Robeson, the Artist as Revolutionary

Feb. 5, 2016, 3:15 p.m.
Paul Robeson, the Artist as Revolutionary with Dr. Gerald Horne, Horne has written more than 30 books on the struggles of those marginalized throughout world history and is chair of History and African Studies at University of Houston. He is one of the most gifted and insightful historians on racial matters of his generation. Gerald Horne discusses the Paul Robeson we've been waiting for: the flesh and blood revolutionary, artistic genius, and fearless opponent of capitalism, racism and colonialism. He recovers in meticulous detail one of the 20th century's greatest freedom fighters. Horne also brings Robeson to life for our own times. Gerald Horne returns Paul Robeson to his rightful place in history, squarely at the center of the Black freedom movement and the global struggle for human rights. As Horne demonstrates, Robeson knew no boundaries or borders-either in art, culture, nations, or politics. Struggle was his life; the world his terrain.

African Union Backs Down on Decision to Send 5,000 Troops to Burundi

Feb. 4, 2016, 9:34 p.m.
Robin Philpot discusses his interview with Willy Nyamitwe, a spokesman for the Burundi government, regarding the stunning reversal of the African Union (AU) December decision to send 5,000 troops into Burundi to quell an artificial crisis. Philpot added a very relevant and interesting catch-22 point: Burundi was elected to the Peace and Security Council that makes the decision to send in troops. It is in the Constitution of the Peace and Security Council and the African Union (AU) that they could not send in troops to any member of the Peace and Security Council. So, do they remove Burundi from the Council or do they abide democracy?

Foreign Policy is Domestic Policy: From Burundi to Flint

Feb. 4, 2016, 9:29 p.m.
Ford focuses on the US led attacks against the Burundi democracy, the African Union (AU) being consumed by the US Africom project, their "peacekeeping missions" being financed by the US and Europe who use bribery and call the shots, the imperialist International Criminal Court (ICC) which target only African leaders and from which many of the AU countries are now seeking an exit and the public relations disaster of Rwandan President Paul Kagame. Ford discusses the recent lead poisoning of the water in Flint, Michigan, that affected more than 100,000 people and caused irreparable damage to the learning ability of thousands of children. He explains that the governor of Michigan appointed a "local emergency financial manager" who acts as a dictator with absolute power over the people. This is a crime against democracy. Every city in Michigan that is predominately Black has been put under the financial dictatorship leadership. Bernie Sanders' bucket has a hole in it. All the contents will drain out, to the advantage of the Democratic Party.
