Michael Klare on Climate Change and Warmaking
Sept. 13, 2014, 9:46 a.m.
Distinguished Professor, author, and activist Michael Klare spoke at MIT on 9-11-2014 on the subject of climate change and wars. We are now seeing that these two issues are intimately connected. Professor Klare spells this out.
Klare is Five College Professor of Peace and World Security Studies, based at Hampshire College. His most recent book is The Race for Whatâs Left: The Global Scramble for the Worldâs Last Resources. He teaches courses on resource politics, contemporary conflict, and world affairs. Klare has written fourteen books and hundreds of essays on these and related topics; a strong believer in the need for public debate and discussion, he also appears regularly in the media and in public to express his views on critical issues. [Much of this description is copied from his website, michaelklare.com.]
The event was organized in view of the upcoming worldwide rally 9-21-2014 to stop global warming AND stop the wars. The USA's rally is scheduled in New York City. In "preliminary" sections posted here, you'll hear a variety of announcements for people considering attending.
After painfully noting MIT's complicity in America's war crimes, and its embrace of Koch family money, Klare presents three basic propositions. Summarized, they are: (1) The climate crisis makes all kinds of conflict more likely; (2) Increased conflict makes a climate solution much more difficult; and (3) The only hope of solution involves promotion of international cooperation in a program of carbon reduction and equitable resource distribution.
Klare emphasizes that solution of the climate crisis is NOT a technical problem. He lists actions that are technically available now. The problem is a lack of political will by those who control the world.
The recording is split up into six pieces, so broadcasters can fit air schedules as required. The pieces are semi-independent. The last piece is the Q&A and Discussion session, which was quite extensive and wide-ranging.

Out of the Woods - Show #231 - 9-11-14
Sept. 11, 2014, 6:38 p.m.
This version of the program is divided into 6 segments so broadcasters who desire to use this content can insert your station info, etc. The segments vary in length.
Out of the Woods is an earthy, wires and wood, mostly acoustic program featuring some of the best new and established artists from the worlds of folk, bluegrass, singer-songwriters, alt.country, Americana, classic country, old-time, Celtic, and everything that falls in between. The show is an unpredictable mix flowing like a river between moods, often with an edge or in a melancholy minor key. On occasion, Out of the Woods features interviews and live in-studio performances with national and international touring musicians. Past guests have included artists such as Bela Fleck, Si Kahn, Brown Bird, Dana Robinson, Steve Gillette & Cindy Mangsen, Kate MacLeod, Bill Bourne, Karl Shiflett, Rachel Bissex, Darryl Purpose, Bow Thayer, Cosy Sheridan and many others. Out of the Woods grew out of Jon 'Chip' Colcord's former acoustic programs, The Song Swap and Music For The Mountain, separate folk and bluegrass programs which aired in New Hampshire during the 1990s. As a child, Colcord grew up a ravenous music fan with an ear for both rock and folk, from Arlo Guthrie to Aerosmith. All of these influences converge on Out of the Woods to bring you a mix which is as much on the edge as it is down home. Folk music with a rock 'n' roll soul

9/11 Meets ISIL: Can the Truth Set US FREE?
Sept. 11, 2014, 4:34 p.m.
On the week marking the thirteenth anniversary of the 9/11 attacks, we hear from two people very much at the forefront of the efforts to challenge the official account of the tragedy.
Among issues they address are the efforts to investigate 9/11 using recently revealed but rarely seen on-line documents, the obstacles to 9/11 Truth making a breakthrough in the political arena, the role of groups like Al Qaeda and ISIS/ISIL as US strategic assets, and concerns forming around a new State directed investigation.
Elizabeth Woodsworth is a retired health Sciences Librarian and researcher. She is coordinator and co-founder of the 9/11 Concensus Panel.
Michel Chossudovsky is the Director and Founder of the Centre for Research On Globalization, an Emeritus Professor of Economics at the University of Ottawa and author of "America's War On Terrorism."

The Fog of Toronto Politics
Sept. 10, 2014, 6:11 p.m.
Phil Taylor and John Barber discuss Toronto's mayoral candidates, especially frontrunners current Mayor Rob Ford and challenger John Tory, whose SmartTrack subway TIF (Tax Increment Financing) plan assigns Toronto a $3 billion debt to be magically paid with property taxes from development.
Reality: This is a fleecing of the taxpayers. Political gusto translates into economic bust for the People.
Voters will use "strategic voting" --translation: "lesser evil" voting.
Barber says the major problem is a lack of money for independent political organizations to influence the vote.
