The Climate Justice Movement with Tim DeChristopher

Tim DeChristopher is an American climate activist and co-founder of the environmental group Peaceful Uprising. On December 19, 2008 Tim disrupted a highly disputed Bureau of Land Management oil and gas lease auction of 116 parcels of public land in Utah's red rock country by successfully bidding on 14 parcels of land (totaling 22,500 acres) for $1.8 million. Tim had no intention to pay the $1.8 million. Tim was removed from the auction by federal agents, taken into custody, and questioned. DeChristopher served 21 months in prison, from July 2011 through April 2013.
Tim outbid industry giants on land parcels which, starting at $2 an acre, were adjacent to national treasures like Canyonlands National Park. Two months later, incoming Interior Secretary Ken Salazar invalidated the auction. Bidder 70 is a documentary film about DeChristopher and his actions of civil disobedience. In this program, Tim DeChristopher was interviewed by Terrence McNally who is a journalist and radio host.

Yumi Kikuchi and Fukushima Kids, Hawaii (ONE of ONE)

On June 11, 2014, a group of friends on the Mendocino coast met to welcome Yumi Kikuchi. She and her husband co-founded Fukushima Kids, Hawaii. Since children are most vulnerable to radiation Yumi and her husband Gen are bringing them, and even their mothers when they are very young, to Hawaii for healing periods of three or more weeks.
Yumi has for over 20 years worked on campaigns against nuclear power plants with Dr. Helen Caldicott and the artist and activist Mayumi Oda. That's why she and her her husband immediately after the Fukushima accident decided to take their own children off her farm 150 miles from the Fukushima reactors. Even on her way out of Japan via Okinawa, Yumi organized to bring over 260 pregnant women out of Fukushima.
Once in Hawaii she began organizing for housing and a new farm to help children from Fukushima. They spend free vacations to recover from the impact of daily doses of radiation. Her husband Gen Morita is a traditional Japanese healer who specializes in restring immune systems. Peter Schumann - The Shatterer

The Queens Museum, Queens, N.Y. hosted Peter Schumann and his works: drawings, books, machines, sculpture, murals, philosophical diagrams,installations and performance lecture, Nov 9, 2013 to Mar 30, 2014. He staged a monthly solo Fiddle Performance in the papier-mache chapel housed in the larger installation and baked bread in a temporary site built brick oven. Surrounded by friends and fans we followed him on a tour of some of the work and poetry in the exhibit as he stopped to point out the significance of several pieces. At root he challenges our assumptions and our compliance with authority and propriety in service of repression. He ridicules the cultural archetypes of Capital. A book of the exhibit is in production. Supruli, a Georgian Choir performed music as part of the event.
Peter Schumann was born in Silesia, Germany in 1934. He survived both the Nazis and Americans. His work creates a critical dystopian world within and parallel to the world in which we live; between good and evil.

Max Blumenthal is an award-winning journalist and best-selling author. His books include "Goliath: Life and Loathing in Greater Israel" and "Republican Gemorrah: Inside the Movement that Shattered the Party."
Ali Abunimah is a long-time Palestinian rights activist. His latest book is "The Battle for Justice in Palestine." He runs the Electronic Intifada (electronicintifada.net), one of our trusted sources of reliable information about Palestine.
They were appearing in support of SDS-USJP's resolution for divestment. No effort would be required, except that one group on campus has been commissioned and orchestrated to oppose it.
