Sensible BC working towards referendum vote on marijuana

Elections BC has just approved the language of a petition to introduce the Sensible Policy Act into the legislature. Dana Larsen says the biggest hurdle is getting enough signatures on the petition as BCâs referendum regulations require 10% of voters in each riding to sign up. The editor speaks about what they think nihilism can bring to anarchism and vice-versa.

Juan Ariza llegó a Canadá a través del programa de trabajadores temporales extranjeros "poco calificados", el 3 de febrero de 2012. This is a recording of an interview with Juan Ariza conducted by Eduardo Huesca on June 3rd, 2013.
Juan Ariza came to Canada under a low-skilled temporary foreign worker program on February 3rd, 2012. On February 6th, 2012 in Hampstead Ontario, which is between Kitchener and Stratford, Juan Ariza and 12 other Peruvian workers were driving in a work van home after working on a chicken farm, and then collided with a transport truck. Ten of the Peruvian workers and the transport truck driver died; Javier Aldo Medina, Juan Ariza and a third man Edgar Sulla-Puma (who has been in a coma in Hamilton since the accident) are the sole survivors of the accident. Then it's an in depth look at what the Wikipedia thought police describe as a "virtually ideal herbicide": Monsanto's glyphosate. Senior Research Scientist Stephanie Seneff, publisher of a recent papers suggesting that glyphosate (roundup) may be implicated in many of the diseases which are now increasing in prevalence in USA.

Juniper Ridge near Port Alberni used to be protected as winter range for deer. But now Island Timberlands is building a road into the area and plans to cut the trees there. The Ancient Forest Alliance is calling for the creation of Park Acquisition Fund to protect threatened lands such as Juniper Ridge. TJ Watt is a campaigner and photographer with the Ancient Forest Alliance. He speaks with Redeye host Jane Williams.

Nearly 29,000 inmates in California state prisons have refused meals protesting prison conditions and rules. The protest extended to two-thirds of the 33 prisons across the state and all 4 private out-of-state facilities where California sends inmates. Thousands of prisoners also refused to attend their work assignments and state officials are bracing for a long-term strike. The protest is centered on the state's aggressive solitary confinement practices, but has attracted support from many prisoners with their own demands for changes in prison conditions.

Out of the Woods is an earthy, wires and wood, mostly acoustic program featuring some of the best new and established artists from the worlds of folk, bluegrass, singer-songwriters, alt.country, Americana, classic country, old-time, Celtic, and everything that falls in between. The show is an unpredictable mix flowing like a river between moods, often with an edge or in a melancholy minor key. On occasion, Out of the Woods features interviews and live in-studio performances with national and international touring musicians. Past guests have included artists such as Bela Fleck, Si Kahn, Brown Bird, Dana Robinson, Steve Gillette & Cindy Mangsen, Bill Bourne, Karl Shiflett, Rachel Bissex, Darryl Purpose, Bow Thayer, Cosy Sheridan and many others. Out of the Woods grew out of Jon 'Chip' Colcord's former acoustic programs, The Song Swap and Music For The Mountain, separate folk and bluegrass programs which aired in New Hampshire during the 1990s. As a child, Colcord grew up a ravenous music fan with an ear for both rock and folk, from Arlo Guthrie to Aerosmith.
