Richmond Region Energy Alliance

July 3, 2013, 9:31 a.m.
The Richmond Region Energy Alliance is one of 40 initiatives across the US funded by the Department of Energy to provide comprehensive resources for home energy improvement. RREA provides access to licensed energy assessors who perform home audits, to contractors who can complete the renovations, to rebates, loans and other financing options, and to quality-assurance follow-up assessments from EarthCraft. The energy audit is invaluable for identifying a home's infrastructural weaknesses (common culprits are inadequate insulation and duct leakage) and provides homeowners the information they need to focus repairs where they're needed most. RREA hopes to facilitate livable comfort, lower energy bills, promote energy efficiency, and bolster local economies, and they especially service older homes that predate building codes and first-time homeowners who receive egregious energy bills. For more information, visit http://www.rrea-va.org/.

Nov 24, 1992 pt2

July 3, 2013, 7:51 a.m.
John Barbour was a major talk show host in the 1960s in Los Angeles. He had the confidence and connections to be able to interview Jim Garrison, New Orleans District Attorney, when he filed charges against Clay Shaw, et al, for the JFK assassination. The interview was never aired, and Barbour was fired when he booked Garrison for his show. A few years later Barbour was the host of top rated TV show "Real People", and again he attempted to book Jim Garrison. The show was cancelled and Barbour again fired. Finally, in 1992, Barbour produced and directed the award winning film "The Jim Garrison Tapes". This time there was coverage, in other nations. It has never aired on a public television station in the United States. Reality Sandwich host Paul Kangas interviews John Barbour in this episode.

Nov 24, 1992 pt1

This episode of Reality Sandwich is a few weeks after the first election of Bill Clinton, and also shortly after the release of Spike Lee's movie "Malcolm X". Host Paul Kangas ties the early smears of President Clinton to the assassination of Malcolm. The murder of President Kennedy was on the lips of Malcolm X just weeks after JFK was killed. The quote led to the split in the Nation of Islam, and Malcolm's widened perspective. Educating President Clinton is also a topic of this episode. The new president is being beleagered with slanders before inauguration. Kangas urges protection as well as activism to keep Clinton adhering to his campaign promises. The show ends with a call for a new calender, based upon a rejection of the old ways and a view to the future.

Alex Trembath on Obama's Climate Change Speech

July 2, 2013, 6:32 p.m.
Did you see how they covered President Obama’s recent big environmental speech on the Sunday political talk shows? No? That’s because none of the Sunday morning shows discussed it at all. In spite of its paltry coverage on the major networks, the speech is being heralded by some environmentalists as historical, while others are critiquing the president for not going far enough. This week on Sea Change Radio, we do our part to make up for the networks’ deficient analysis of this important speech by talking with Alex Trembath of the Breakthrough Institute. The Breakthrough Institute is an American think tank interested in “modernizing environmentalism for the 21st century.” While their positions on nuclear power and natural gas have raised controversy in environmental circles, they are a leading voice on progressive ecological policy and how the government can advance innovation that promotes a healthy planet.

Greenwald on Snowden

July 2, 2013, 12:25 p.m.
GLENN GREENWALD SPEAKS OF EDWARD SNOWDEN AND NSA AT THE CHICAGO SOCIALISM 2013 FORUM In the latest fallout from the ongoing NSA leaks published by the Guardian and der Spiegel, the European Community is up in arms over today's reports of American and British surveillance of at least 38 European embassies, and the bugging of UN and EU computers, phones and trade delegations engaged in treaty negotiations with Washington. The European parliament and French President Francois Hollande are demanding explanations and a 'immediate halt' to the NSA/GCHQ operations. But BARACK OBAMA's new State Secretary John Kerry shrugged off the furor, claiming, with apologies to Tom Jones, that "it's not unusual" to tap at any time. Domestically, new slides released from the NSA's PRISM database indicate that the Obama administration is maintaining real-time surveillance of American emails, logins, logouts, locations and transmissions -- in addition to digital storage of virtually all domestic cellphone and landline calls. Meanwhile, the diplomatic noose around Edward Snowden tightened significantly overnight, when the now-passport-less whistleblower had a travel document issued by the Ecuadoran embassy in Moscow revoked by President RAFAEL CORREA -- who is facing trade sanctions and other threats against asylum delivered over the weekend by Vice President JOE BIDEN. Moreover, Russian President VLADIMIR PUTIN added insult to injury, asserting today that if Snowden wants to stay in Russia "he must stop his work aimed at harming our American partners". Edward Snowden's principles and revelations, and mainstream media's negligence in covering the NSA spy scandal were addressed in great detail over the weekend by Guardian reporter GLENN GREENWALD, keynote speaker for the Socialism 2013 Conference in Chicago [ socialismconference.org/ ]. Greenwald spoke from a foreign location by Skype, very much aware of the irony that Skype is among the many American corporations collaborating with the NSA. Greenwald was introduced by "Dirty War" author JEREMY SCAHILL

July 2, 2013, 7:28 a.m.
This show is a continuation of the audio from the movie "9/11 Explosive Evidence: Experts Speak Out". You won't hear this, or about this, in the corporate media or even in most of the alternative media. One has to ask "Why?" There are now 1947 architects and engineers willing to put their reputations on the line and state that the official story of how the 3 WTC towers came down is scientifically fraudulent and the major media outlets are collectively censoring it!! And much of the alternative media is too. Join these courageous architects, engineers and regular folks and sign the petition at www.ae911truth.org. On this show you'll also hear about Kevin Ryan's new book "Another Nineteen: Investigating Legitimate 9/11 Suspects". This book breaks new ground in the search for 9/11 truth. You can learn more about the book and how to get a copy by going to www.digwithin.net. I would highly recommend it.

February 1990

July 2, 2013, 1:22 a.m.
This episode of Reality Sandwich was aired in February of 1990, as part of Black History Month. The featured figure is Frank Mills, the security guard at the Watergate Center in 1972. Mills played a unique role in discovering the burglars of the Democratic Party Headquarters. By seeing they got arrested, it led to not only the downfall of President Nixon, but the discovery of the assassins of President Kennedy. Almost since the day of JFK's killing, researchers tried to identify the 'three tramps' who were arrested behind the grassy knoll, attempting to flee in a boxcar. Thanks to Lee Bowers, the railroad switchman, they were caught and photographed. But their identities were unknown until Frank Mills had them arrested. Their photos were then released to the world and the rest is history.

#278 -- Imperialism at Home and Abroad

July 1, 2013, 9:50 p.m.
Includes the final part of GLEN FORD's talk (begun in NWN #276 & 277) plus a short commentary by Ford and a song by DAVID ROVICS. This week Ford's focus is the US's current attempt (by means of AFRICOM) to control Africa's resources and trade by controlling Africa's militaries. And relatedly, Ford addresses the US government's war against civil liberties at home. Rovics' song, "Meanwhile in Afghanistan," gives another view of military attacks overseas and attacks on the Bill of Rights at home.
