Last week on Sea Change Radio host Alex Wise spoke to Adam Browning, the executive director of Vote Solar, a non-profit organization that advocates for solar power adoption. This week, the second part of his discussion with Browning. We discuss the lessons we can learn from success stories like the German solar industry as well as high-profile flops like Solyndra. Then, we dig into the Sea Change Radio archives to hear from Matt Wasson, whose non-profit Appalachian Voices works to reduce the impact of coal on the Appalachian region.

Here we are in the thick of the holiday season, but whose holiday are we celebrating? Most faith traditions have some kind of ceremony related to the changing of the seasons or other types of celestial transitions, but here in Richmond, where our community hosts an annual Christmas through the middle of town, we get a sense of how acceptance of a Christian religious tradition is taken for granted as fitting for everyone. Looking at our society with a post-9/11 lens, religious intolerance has unfortunately made its way into the cultural mainstream. Here in Richmond, we have an organization that is working to address all forms of prejudice, including bias based on religious beliefs. The Virginia Center for Inclusive Communities has a long history in Richmond, and as it looks to celebrate its 30th Annual Humanitarian Awards, Jonathan Zur is joining Inspire Indeed to talk about what Virginia Center for Inclusive Communities is all about, and how we can each be more aware of religious diversity in the Richmond community and across the state. Arnie Gundersen: WHAT DID THEY KNOW, WHEN DID THEY KNOW IT?

Gundersen argues that the 2011 Fukushima Daiichi accident in Japan began in 1965, inside the US, with General Electric and the engineers who designed the site plan and architecture for the Mark I reactor at Fukushima. He also points the finger at the US Atomic Energy Commission that permitted a flawed design to be licensed and built.
Gundersen holds an MA in nuclear engineering and once worked for the nuclear industry. He was an expert witness on the Three Mile Island partial melt-down, and more recently on the serious safety risks at the Vermont Yankee and California's San Onofre reactors. He and his website at Fairewinds Energy Education <www.fairewinds.org/> became well known and respected after the Fukushima accident for his often weekly updated reports.

Canadian doctors launch court challenge of cuts to refugee healthcare

Last June, the federal government drastically cut healthcare coverage for refugee claimants in Canada. Since then doctors have been unable to help hundreds of patients with treatable conditions. Last month, the organization Canadian Doctors for Refugee Care announced that they were pursuing a court challenge to the program cuts.

Playwright Marcus Youssef is well-known for his plays dealing with political issues from the invasion of Iraq to Canadian involvement in Afghanistan. His most recent production moves into deeply personal territory. How Has My Love Affected You? is playing at the Arts Club Theatre until March 23. In the play, Marcus tells the story of his close, yet difficult relationship with his mother, Joleene. Marcusâs son Zak joins him on stage, playing music written especially for the production by Veda Hille.

At that time the Venezuelan reactionary opposition had launched another attempt to overthrow the government of Hugo Chavez and put an end to the Bolivarian revolution. The campaign has supporters in more than 30 countries around the world.

The first thermonuclear explosion ever to occur on the earth, Ivy Mike,was detonated by the US Military on Eniwetok atoll in the Marshall Islands on 1st November 1952. The device itself weighed 60 tons and was housed in a six-storey structure containing the massive cooling apparatus needed to produce a temperature of minus 250 degrees Centigrade whereby the deuterium used to fuel the bomb could be liquified.
Sixteen months later, the explosion of Castle Bravo on Bikini atoll marked the beginning of a second series of thermonuclear tests staged with the express purpose of creating a much smaller "deliverable" thermonuclear weapon in the megaton range.
"Promethean Hubris" offers an account of the events surrounding these tests, and describes the human and environmental consequences of such tests from the perspective of the inhabitants of the Marshall Islands. Special attention is given to the effects of Castle Bravo, the first of six thermonuclear tests that were conducted as part of Operation Castle between 1st March and 22nd April 1954.
