Over 100 Youth Storm Transcanada Office In Funeral For Our Future

The Week of Action against the Keystone XL tar sands pipeline has begun early!
On the 11th of March, over 100 people stormed Transcanada's office in Westborough, Massachusetts, holding a "funeral for our future." They were there in opposition to the Keystone XL tar sands pipeline, and carried a black casket emblazoned with the words
"Our Future." Others carried flowers like you would see at a normal funeral.
Twenty-six people were arrested when they refused police demands to leave. The rest continued the funeral procession outside, chanting âWe will lay down our bodies, we will lay down our souls, no, we wonât stand by and watch while they dig us a hole.â
Will Pearl is a Tufts University freshman arrested in this action, and he had this to say:
âIf the tar sands are extracted and burned, it will wipe out my future and the future of my entire generation,â continuing âIf President Obama will not reject the Keystone XL pipeline, we will stop it ourselves. We will rise up and resistâfrom the backwoods of Texas, to corporate offices in Massachusetts, to the steps of the White House.â

My special guest is H.T. (Tom) Brown, old friend and co-worker. Tom has been a major Frank Zappa fanatic since 1966. He compiled the Zappa Beat The Boots box sets for Rhino Records. His house in Venice was known for years as the Zappa Museum! And he has published Confessions of a Zappa Fanatic, his second book. I invited Tom to sit in with me and play his ultimate Zappa music set, and this is it. Arf! Includes tributes from Zappa musicians and friends, and some amazing music that has never even been booted. Over two hours of wonder from the guy who said he didn't want to be remembered. But it's not up to him.

Garry George, Renewable Energy Project Director at Audubon California, and Chase Mendenhall, Ph.D student in Stanford's Center for Conservation Biology, joined us on the show for a discussion about the impacts of solar and wind energy projects on birds, and how to transition to renewable energy with as little impact on wildlife as possible. Garry is intimately involved with renewable energy developers, helping them create plans that work for the developers but also for endangered birds and other critical species. Chase joined us on the panel to discuss our interview with Garry and to provide his perspective on striking the delicate balance that protects wildlife without preventing energy developers from moving forward.

BC government legislation to give logging companies more rights in the forests

A new bill in the BC legislature would make it easier for forest companies to create new tree farm licences and gain private property rights over the land they use. The effect would be devastating for future environmental protection of public lands. Joe Foy is National Campaign Director for the Wilderness Committee.
Memphis organizes against police and the KKK

Memphis is heating up! This year will be the first observance of the International Day of Action Against Police Brutality on March 15th, organized in part by Black Autonomy CopWatch. Also, on March 30th, the KKK will be holding a rally against the city's decision to rename the park housing the body of Nathan Bedford Forrest, a confederate General and founder of the KKK. Memphis also plans to rename 2 other Confederate parks in the city, not only forrest park. Counter-demonstrations are planned by Anti-Racist Action and other American antifascists.
It should not surprise folx that one of the people Working so hard to organize against police brutality and challenge white supremacists is Tennessee's own Lorenzo Kom'boa Ervin. Mr. Komboa Ervin is a former black panther, an author, a former political prisoner and a Black Autonomist.
The show also features an update from the Tinley Park 5 website on the status of the antifa prisoners.

Palestinians Refuse To Be "Cleansed" From Their Land

AIM leader Dennis Banks, renowned author Alice Walker, and South African labor leader Vavi came together to an international tribunal to grapple with Israel's occupation of Palestine, and strategize how to build greater support internationally for Palestinian self-determination. They reveal Israel as an occupier, an aggressor, confiscating Palestinian land and removing the indigenous residents and then when faced with resistance, operating in a fashion that each panelist viewed through the historical lens of their own people's brutalization. Dennis Banks reflected on the genocide of Native Americans, Walker referenced the enslavement of Africans and American institutional racism and Vivi thought that the South African system of Apartheid was echoed by Israel's treatment of Palestinians.
