This past Thursday we retackled solar PV on Green Grid Radio. The featured interviewee on the show was Vishvesh Jhaveri, of Silray Inc, while Stanford students Emma Sagan and Justin Briggs joined us to round out the discussion. In “Commercial Solar: Communicating Long-Term Benefits in an Immediate World,” we spoke at length about solar through the lens of how academia and industry can work together to continue lowering costs of solar technologies. Another theme of the show was on local and regional policies that facilitate the integration of clean energy.

Greece's Radical Left Coalition SYRIZA Leader Alexis Tsipras in NY Says No to Anti-Austerity Politics with Alexis Tsipras, member, Hellenic parliament, pres. of the Synaspismos political party since 2008, head of the SYRIZA parliamentary group since 2009 and leader of the opposition since June 2012 The Radical Coalition of the Left (Syriza) became Greece's second-largest party following its dramatic success in parliamentary election's. It has campaigned steadfastly against the recovery blueprint for Greece drawn up by the European Union (EU) & International Monetary Fund (IMF). The party is led by the country's youngest political leader, Alexis Tsipras. Tsipras talks about the unpopular EU-IMF plan, known in Greece as the ''memorandum'' & says that the election result represented radical change in both Greece & Europe, showing that people are not prepared to settle for "barbarous memorandums" and bailouts. *************** ATU Local 1181 Strike Update with Jimmy Hedge Executive Board Member/Delegate, Amalgamated Transportation Union (ATU) Local 1181 Members of Local 1181 have been on strike, walking picketlines, with the weather in the teens since Wed., Jan.16 in protest of NYC's most recent special education contract bid, which would exclude their Employee Protection Provision (EPP). The bid fails to protect both special education students, & NYC's most experienced and safe drivers and escorts. Local 1181 members all come from modest means, and keeping their EPP's, their job security is about maintaining their livelihood and their union.

Out of the Woods is an earthy, wires and wood, mostly acoustic program featuring some of the best new and established artists from the worlds of folk, bluegrass, singer-songwriters, alt.country, Americana, classic country, old-time, Celtic, and everything that falls in between. The show is an unpredictable mix flowing like a river between moods, often with an edge or in a melancholy minor key. On occasion, Out of the Woods features interviews and live in-studio performances with national and international touring musicians. Past guests have included artists such as Bela Fleck, Si Kahn, Brown Bird, Dana Robinson, Steve Gillette & Cindy Mangsen, Bill Bourne, Karl Shiflett, Rachel Bissex, Darryl Purpose, Bow Thayer, Cosy Sheridan and many others.
