Gore Vidal Memorial

GORE VIDAL died overnight of pneumonia complications at the age of 86 in his home in the Hollywood Hills, which he once described as "arguable proof that I don't REALLY live in the United States." The legendary novelist, screenwriter, historian, raconteur and political philosopher spoke live with your reporter during a Pacifica national radio broadcast on the day of President George W. Bush's second inauguration. We hear that interview; and Gore Vidal's sense of augury, or political prediction, was deeply rooted in his detailed knowledge of history. Today's NATO-American control of more and more of the globe was also anticipated by Vidal, during a pre-millenial speech to the National Press Club, where he analyzed the origins of empire, including NATO, The NSA and the Constitution.
