Oct. 26, 2010, 6:09 p.m.
Initially, Oscar Romero was a conservative Catholic appointed arch-bishop of San Salvador, capital of El Salvador, in 1977. In fact, his appointment was considered to be an enormous setback to those in San Salvador who were working for social justice. But, Romeroâs life was transformed when he witnessed the assassination of a priest who was working to politically organize and mobilize a group of rural campesinos, rural farmworkers.
Reflecting on this, Romero remarked that if this priest was killed for this work, he must follow inhis pathâthat is the path of Liberation Theology.

Oct. 25, 2010, 10:03 p.m.
This is the full 10-25-10 episode of the Labor Express Radio program.
Todayâs episode of Labor Express could be called class struggles in France.
Around the globe, the ruling class is utilizing the current economic crisis to erode gains made by the working class over a century of struggle. But in at least one place, the workers are fighting back on a grand scale. French workers are legendary for their militancy and the French are living up to their reputation with nearly two months of rolling strikes that have crippled the French state and mobilized popular opposition to French President Nicolas Sarkozy planned austerity measures. Weâll get a report on the situation from NYU doctoral student Jason Stanley who is currently living in France studying the social system there and cuts in social benefits in France over the last several decades.
