Namrata Chowdhary: Three (50) Is A Magic Number
April 28, 2023, 7:13 p.m.
In the first decade of this century many of us learned that the threshold for keeping our planet healthy was 350 parts per million of carbon dioxide. Advocates like those at 350.org emphasized the need to adopt practices to help the earth stay below that number. Well, unfortunately, we earthlings have blown through that limit and are presently looking at 419 parts per million. But that doesn't mean the idea of lowering our carbon emissions is moribund. And there are still organizations like 350.org keeping the dream alive. This week on Sea Change Radio, we speak to Namrata Chowdhary, the Head of Public Engagement at 350.org. We learn more about the organization's roots, examine some of the fights they've taken on, and discuss how they're planning to evolve. We also talk about the corporatization of some larger environmental organizations and dive into the issues surrounding fossil fuel divestiture.

Frank Pacino– "Life in the Marine Corps"
April 28, 2023, 6:21 a.m.
When recruiters from the Armed Forces of the United States seek out volunteers, they often portray military life to be a great adventure. They talk of schooling, travel and excitement. Sometimes that is not the case. In this edition of Radio Curious, we visit Sgt. Frank Pacino, who spent his early life in Covelo, California and then moved to Ukiah, California. Frank Pacino was recruited into the Marine Corps in early 2001 and is now a Sergeant. He was one of the first troops to go into Iraq in 2002, where he spent approximately six months. He was returned to Iraq in 2004 for a year.
Frank Pacino recommends “Bush At War,” by Bob Woodward.

The "foreign agents registry" plan divides Canadians and undermines democracy.
Canada should join the majority of the world's states in promoting diplomacy and the charter of the United Nations.
Part B:
Japan's leaders continue to show ambivalence toward the fascists who led them into World War 2. The Prime Minister recently sent an offering to the shrine where 14 class-A war criminals are buried. That is a signal that the rulers in Japan harbor ambitions to return to wars of conquest, and it has been condemned by both N. and S. Korea and China.
Canada paid a heavy price fighting Imperial Japan. We too should condemn the macabre practice of honoring war criminals.

This time the Sonic Cafe features comedian Trevor Wallace stops by with his stream of consciousness impersonation of just about every barista in the US. Wherever you live, you’ve seen this guy. So listen for that. Our fully roasted mix covers 47 years. Listen for Garbage, The Blues Brothers, Men At Work, the Better Oblivion Community Center, Amy Winehouse and more. Then around the bottom of the hour we take the Sonic Café time machine back to 1975, listen for Queen with The Prophet’s Song, in another foreshadowing of what when things hit the fan. Oh and a big Sonic Café welcome to our newest sponsor. You love Chipotle, but hate the mess it leaves in your drawers. Then in our second half hour, we will hear from Economic thinker and journalist Dr Jack Rasmus about the fundamentals of what happened to Silvergate Capital and Silicon Valley Bank last month, and what may be in store for more banks as the qualifiers continue to go unaddressed.

Policy Forum on Kohelet, Israel's version of the American Legislative Exchange Council (ALEC)
April 26, 2023, 8:27 p.m.
You are perhaps familiar with the American Legislative Exchange Council, ALEC, a right-wing think tank that drafts right-wing legislation and then lobbies Congress as well as state legislators to introduce and press passage of their drafted bills. They have had enormous success enacting their right-wing agendas, both at the federal and state level.
There is an Israeli counterpart, Kohelet, a far-Right, US-Funded Israeli think-tank that Shapes Policy and Law in the US and Israel. Kohelet exercises enormous power, flying under the radar in both Israel as well as the US. Today, in a forum sponsored by the Foundation for Middle East Peace, we take a critical look at Kohelet through the eyes of journalists and activists who have been dealing with Kohelet for years. The participants are Ran Cohen (Democratic Bloc), Yousef Munayyer (Arab Center DC), Eran Nissan (Mehazkim), and Lara Friedman (FMEP); moderated by Sarah Anne Minkin (FMEP)
And there you have it. Government controlled by the Right … in Israel and in the US. The kind of US. funding Kohelet commands allows them to buy political connections, which is how the minority right-wing controls governments, including ours.

Daniel Ellsberg on Freedom of the Press, Julian Assange, and the Risk of Nuclear War
April 26, 2023, 4:48 a.m.
Of course Ellsberg is best known for the release of the Pentagon Papers, a top secret study of the decision-making of the U.S. government in relation to the war in Vietnam, how long it had been planned for, and how - like in the bombing of Iraq - lies were used to actually begin the war in Vietnam. Less known is his support of whistle-blowers and his anti-nuclear work.
Daniel Ellsberg has used his experience to defend Julian Assange and other whistleblowers - even up to current days - when it has become known that he received a cancer diagnosis that gives him only a few more months to live.
Frank Barat spoke with Daniel Ellsberg on Jan 19, 2023. He is a French activist, author and film producer and has edited books with Ilan Pappé, Noam Chomsky, Angela Davis and Vijay Prashad.
On May 22, 2021, during the Biden administration, The New York Times reported that Daniel Ellsberg had just released classified documents revealing the Pentagon in 1958 drew up plans to launch a nuclear attack on China amid tensions over the Taiwan Strait. According to the documents, US military leaders supported a first-use nuclear strike even though they believed China's ally, the Soviet Union, would retaliate and millions of people would perish.
Here is part of an interview that Paul Jay held with Ellsberg on September 21, 2022 that gives a contemporary cast to the problem. The title of the interview is Why is Biden Risking Nuclear War With China?
Paul Jay is a journalist and filmmaker. He’s the founder and host of theAnalysis.news, a video and audio current affairs interview and commentary show and website.
This rebroadcast is part of a celebration of the work and life of Daniel Ellsberg. He recently disclosed that he has pancreatic cancer and has only three to six months to live. He has remained active and productive and wrote that his editor knows that he works better under a deadline. And Ellsberg adds Quote: It turns out that I also live better under a deadline!

Europera 5 is the last and most diminutive of Cages operas " preceded by Europeras 1 & 2 (1984-1987) and Europeras 3 & 4 (1991) " and was instigated by pianist Yvar Mikashoffs desire for a small, more practical and portable, and more easily performed work in the series, which had its premiere in Buffalo at the North American New Musical Festival on April 12, 1991.
