#713 -- The Illusionists, Part 1 (R)

Nov. 1, 2021, 11:35 a.m.
A good documentary film by Elena Rossini (2015), adapted to radio by KD. It's about the damage--social, physical, and psychological--wrought by the huge and profitable "beauty" industry. One of this film's virtues is its international scope. Throughout the world, the bad effects of the beauty business are remarkably similar--but the regional variations are very interesting. The focus shifts among. Boston, Paris, Milan, Beirut, Mumbai, and Tokyo. (Continued under "Credits.")

Extraordinary Threat - Book Launch

Oct. 31, 2021, 7:06 p.m.
The Canadian book launch of "Extraordinary Threat: The U.S. Empire, the Media, and Twenty Years of Coup Attempts in Venezuela." Joe Emersberger and Justin Podur apply media analysis to the absurd claims that Venezuela represents an "extraordinary threat" to the United States, or that 'Chavizmo' transformed "once prosperous" Venezuela into a poorhouse. The U.S. desire to intervene in oil-rich Venezuela means that it needs to construct narratives to justify intervention. These self-serving stories denigrate the achievements in poverty reduction of the Bolivarian Revolution, while minimizing the U.S. role in disrupting the Venezuelan economy and civil society. Particular attention is given to "human rights organizations" such as Amnesty International, who minimize the effect of U.S. encirclement and coup-promotion, instead preferring to "referee" a supposedly level-playing-field in the country.

Resisting Corporate Terrorism - Defending Sacred Water

Oct. 30, 2021, 5:13 p.m.
Water is Life! is the theme; resistance to oppression the lesson. Spirited rally to raise funds for the legal defense of people brutalized and arrested resisting the construction of Tar Sands Pipe Line #3 , its' threat to and destruction of land, water and human rights. Several students from nearby Northwestern University joined the resistance for extended actions and speak of their experience. Embridge Energy corporation lawlessly installed the pipeline across land belonging to indigenous people who refused it right of way. They hired the local police to be their private goons to crack heads. The State of Minnesota and local officials lent agency to facilitate Embridges' crimes while U.S. officials grovel before Embridge Corporation and its financial enabler CitiBank, demonstrating both disrespect for "rule of law" and life itself. When Michigan Governor Gretchen Whitmer ordered Embridge to shut down Line #5 it scoffed at her forcing some citizens of Michigan to shut down Line #5 in protest; a citizens arrest of sorts. The fight continues in the courts, in the fields and on the streets.

Episode 2021.10.03. Why Do People Not See Capitalism's Problem

Oct. 28, 2021, 10:18 p.m.
Life is getting better because Capitalism came into existence, then again life could only get better after a few thousand years of European serfdom. In this episode I tackle the question behind this reality, is this the best reality an economic system can produce. Obviously, I think the answer to this question is no. That stated I dedicate this episode to discussing why some people may think the system is working well and why they refuse to see what is evident and clear before their eyes. Episode 2021.10.02. Meritocratic Society and The Blessing or Curse Money Gives to the Bequeathed

Oct. 28, 2021, 10:14 p.m.
This is not a polished episode segment, but the information is to critical to let pass into the waste basket. Many of us have heard the word merit, but few have heard the word meritocracy. The Roman Republic was supposedly a meritocracy; it was also a den of savvy backstabbing wolves who sought to deprive their fellow compatriots just for fun, for this reason merit was earned and sometimes stolen, but it was rarely free or given without a fight. In this current political economic system, merit is held out as something gained by those who work hard for it and earn it through laboring for others or showing individual ingenuity in pursuit of some goal. Meritocracy suggests a system has been established to ensure there are rules for structuring achievement and ambition so that checks on ingenuity doesn’t lead to Saprano style conclusions. This episode will discuss our societies meritocracy and the curse brought about by the money it bequeaths the ultra wealthy. If you have any questions, comments or concerns please contact me at vphiamer.adis.ogaarwa@outlook.com
