Episode 2021.10.01. Capitalism Is Flaunting Its Own Rules, The Rising Julius Cesar Threat
Oct. 28, 2021, 10:11 p.m.
First, this is an older episode I recorded earlier in the year. With that out the way, the true description. I know this seems unlikely, especially with the insanity bred by modern Capitalism, but Capitalism does have rules. The dreaded Marx tried to annunciate those rules and explain how they actualized themselves throughout the system they fed. Taking a page from the professors I enjoyed throughout college, I will talk about the current rules Capitalism is flaunting before getting into a true concern I am having as we move sluggishly through this current decade. That concern is captured in the title, that America and the Euro-Anglo Alliance feeding it from abroad, are creating a situation where the ego portion in the cultural body will start to produce ever more ambitiously driven figures whose only living purpose is to dominate and capture more power. Sure they may say are doing it because the system has so devolved that the only measure that can save it is an autocrat with a heart of gold; but nonetheless the person would be rooted in the cultural ego and their actions will therefore have unintended negative reverberations throughout this country and the world. Donald Trump is a historical first, sculpted from that portion. And there are others waiting in the wing, some whose names are known, others who have yet to be introduced. How can I be sure of this, because I see what you see; and I feel that sickening feeling in my stomach, that feeling telling me something is horribly wrong in the environment which I live. Trust your gut, it is telling you the truth.

In My Mother's Footsteps: A Palestinian Refugee Returns Home
Oct. 27, 2021, 7:50 p.m.
Today we talk with Palestinian story-teller Mona Hajjar Halaby. Though she currently lives in Berkeley, California, she writes of her ties to Palestine through the memories of her mother, and her frequent trips to Palestine over many years. Her recently published book: In My Mother's Footsteps: A Palestinian Refugee Returns Home.
From the description at shoppalestine.org:
âRefugees are like seeds that scatter in the wind, and land in different soils that become their reluctant homesâ my mother once told me. As a small child, I looked up at my mother and clutched her hand. The puffiness of her palm reminded me of a loaf of warm pita bread, and when she laced her fingers into mine like a pretzel, I felt safe. I would have walked with her to the ends of the earth.
When Mona moved from California to Ramallah to teach conflict resolution in a school for a year, she kept a journal. Within its pages, she wrote her impressions of her homeland, a place she had only experienced through her motherâs memories.
As she settled into her teaching role, getting to know her students and the challenges they faced living in a militarized, occupied town, Mona also embarked on a personal pilgrimage to find her motherâs home in Jerusalem.
Mona had dreamed of being guided by her mother down the old souqs, and the leafy streets of her neighborhood, listening to the muezzinâs call for prayer and the medley of church bells. But after fifty-nine years of exile, it was Monaâs mother who held her daughterâs hand as they visited Jerusalem together, walking the narrow cobblestone alleys of the Old City. Their roles were reversed. Mona had become her Mamaâs legs and her memory â and the one to tell her story going forward.
In My Motherâs Footsteps is a moving and heart-rending journey of a daughter discovering her roots and recovering her motherâs beloved past. Itâs also an intimate and tender account of daily life for Palestinians as never seen before.

Down here, I can see
Heaven (as it is on Earth):
Too many angels.

Chapter Eight presents the next movement of my musical work in progress, The Disquieting: [IV] The Half-Life Of Transcendence. This section offers an apology to the Himalaya, an exceptional place where the earth and the heavens embrace. For context, I examine the history and present of Mount Everest, share recent literary research into Salman Rushdieâs best-known novel, and consider the transcendental implications for the peculiar human habit of climbing mountains.

Solving America's Traffic Cop Problem
Oct. 26, 2021, 3:31 p.m.
Two summers ago, calls to defund the police swept across the nation, spurred by high-profile incidents of police brutality against people of color. While the voices demanding this change may have quieted, with many Americans now calling for an increase in local police budgets, thereâs a specific, particularly dangerous area of policing that could be eliminated quite easily: traffic stops. This week on Sea Change Radio, we talk with independent reporter, Brett Simpson, about the long-standing use of police to arbitrate the rules of the road. We consider alternative models to road safety being attempted in this country and in Europe, examine how new technology could keep our roads safe without those roving fleets of lethally-armed traffic cops, and explore privacy issues related to these innovations.
