Approximately 20% of the worldâs population lives in the Peopleâs Republic of China. According to Chinese-American lawyer Gordon G. Chang, China appears from the outside to be politically stable and economically strong. Chang, however, argues that China is in social, cultural, economic and political turmoil. He claims that Chinaâs pending entry into the World Trade Organization will trigger social and political collapse. Gordon Chang has lived and worked in China for almost 20 years, most recently in Shanghai. He is the author of a new book entitled âThe Coming Collapse of China.â

Professor Avi Loeb: The First Sign of Intelligent Life Beyond Earth

Harvard Professor Avi Loeb says that it is an artifact - many colleagues say it is just another comet or asteroid.
Here is part of the ongoing and escalating controversy laid out in the Big Brains podcast from the University of Chicago from May 6, 2021. The full 34 minute conversation between Paul Rand and Professor Avi Loeb is on the University of Chicago website.
Avi Loeb is a theoretical physicist who works on astrophysics and cosmology. He is former chair of the astronomy department at Harvard University and directs the Black Hole Initiative. He chairs the Advisory Committee for the Breakthrough Starshot Initiative and the Board on Physics and Astronomy of the National Academies.
His recently published book is: Extraterrestrial, The First Sign of Intelligent Life Beyond Earth - and the publisher says: Harvardâs top astronomer lays out his controversial theory that our solar system was recently visited by advanced alien technology from a distant star. It was discovered by the Pan-STARRS telescope in Maui, Hawaii, and given the name, âOumuamua.
The publication of the book: Extraterrestrial, sharpened the controversy - which, by the way, is welcomed by Avi Loeb. The public is fascinated and the book is already a best-seller. Academic support is rare and critics are becoming organized. Some of it plays out in scientific papers - but much more is now on the internet. The Big Brains podcast from the University of Chicago is so interesting because the host, Paul M. Rand is well informed in the science of it and engages in a conversation.

In a heartening turn, there has been an uptick in both volunteering and philanthropy throughout the country: charitable giving increased approximately 25% in 2020, and volunteerism also rose in response to increasing unemployment, poverty, and food insecurity. This week on Sea Change Radio, we speak with the CEO of the Silicon Valley Community Foundation, Nicole Taylor about this key California philanthropic organization. We learn how community foundations receive money from donors and distribute these funds to non-profits, discuss ways that the pandemic has changed philanthropy, and talk about how the murder of George Floyd and the ensuing trial of Derek Chauvin ignited a wave of giving to support racial justice.

Hes the 'founder of stratification economics.' His varied research interests have also included the African diaspora, the economics of black reparations, group-based post-traumatic stress disorder, and social and economic policy as they relate to race and ethnicity.

We are here tonight for Stuâs Faves #13, a musical tribute to my brother Stuart who died in 2011 and left behind an insanely large collection of music. Iâve spent ten years sifting through his collection, finding new favorites, and sharing them on the radio. Iâve barely scratched the surface and look forward to continuing the shows for years to come. Itâs been cathartic and a fun way to keep Stuartâs memory alive.
