Max Blumenthal with Michael Spath

Aug. 10, 2020, 1:53 p.m.
This week we feature a conversation with one of the truly great investigative journalists of our time, Max Blumenthal. To guarantee his independence as a journalist he founded the Grayzone Project (thegrayzone.com), which allowed him to cut ties with the controlling corporate media. Because of that, his reporting is less exposed in main stream media, which too often refuses to accurately cover such areas as Venezuela, Syria, and of course Palestine. His books include The 51 Day War: Ruin and Resistance in Gaza (2015), Republican Gomorrah: Inside the Movement that Shattered the Party (2009), Goliath: Life and Loathing in Greater Israel (2013), and The Management of Savagery: How America's National Security State Fueled the Rise of Al Qaeda, ISIS, and Donald Trump (2019). So here is the intrepid Max Blumenthal in conversation with Michael Spath of the Indiana Center for Middle East Peace.

Free Meng Wanzhou, escape from US hegemony

Aug. 8, 2020, 2:52 p.m.
Phil comments on the foreign policy of the Canadian Parliament. Wherever the U.S. is starting a fire, the Canadian government wants to be pouring gasoline on it. Everybody falls in line without a word of caution. There are a number of demands we need to make, including for the release of Meng Wanzhou. She is not only a Chinese businesswoman, but also someone who is involved in Canadian economic development. Meng Wanzhou has been detained in Canada to please the Trump administration. Although the U.S. has complained repeatedly about China's successful COVID-19 response, it is undeniable that there is much to be learned from the array of strategies China employed. The way we have treated China is evidence of Western parochialism: why don't we invite them to share their experiences? They do all over the world. Instead, we accuse China of stealing COVID-19 science, when we haven't demonstrated any science to steal. Phil Taylor and Tony Leah discuss this issue and more, including India's Kerala province's standout performance, and the Globe and Mail's pathetic coverage of China's politics. Nathan Vanderklippe argues that China is expunging Western thought. They might want to ask themselves if that rejection also includes the Western-originated universal system of Marxist socialism.

DNC Blocks Medicare for Al

Aug. 8, 2020, 8:21 a.m.
Its shameful as hell says the pro-single-payer Healthcare-NOW of the DNC Platform Committee's vote against Medicare for All with Benjamin Day, Executive Director of Healthcare-Now Benjamin Day, executive director of the pro-single-payer organization Healthcare-NOW!, says its a matter of life and death to rally behind a single-payer healthcare plan after the DNC Platform Committee overwhelmingly voted down an amendment that would have inserted support for Medicare for All into the Democratic platform, which is set to receive a final vote at the virtual Democratic convention next month. Many hundreds of delegates are speaking out now with clarity to insist that Medicare for All belongs in the Democratic Party platform, says Day "[t]hey are correct to never waver in this fight for healthcare as a human right. Chicago Protests Continue - Torture and Human Rights Abuse Still At Homan Square

Aug. 6, 2020, 8:22 p.m.
Speakers represent Let Us Breath Collective, Black Abolitionist Network and Chicago Torture Justice Center. Five years earlier the Let Us Breath Collective and Black Lives Matter setup a tent community in an empty lot across from the Chicago Police Department warehouse at Homan and Fillmore after hearing reports of children and adults be held off the books by police. Prisoners were hidden from their lawyers and family, denied access to lawyers and a phone and as you will hear bathrooms. Former Mayor Rahm Emanuel and current Mayor Lightfoot have refused to close the facility or enforce the laws requiring that prisoners be registered and allowed access to a lawyer. Called a "black site" in a Guardian Newspaper expose, local lawyers disputed that claim. Nothing that transpired at Homan was any different than what happens at any other police station in Chicago they claimed. Speakers are calling for de-funding the police. The #3 demand in the BAN list of demands is for the City Council to pass the Civilian Police Accountability Council Ordnance, CPAC. The protest took place ahead of Trumps threat to bring Federal Goons into Chicago to stop the on going protests that followed George Floyd's murder by Minneapolis police. This black lead movement intends to end police impunity and the racist policing that accompanies it. They were not intimidated and were joined at the rally by many white and Latinx supporters who later marched through the neighborhood.. Damon's talk starts late and the last speaker an Alderman was not recorded. A cultural program followed that demonstrated how its the community that provides actual safety.

And finally get out your check book and give a giant size Sonic Café welcome to some nice folks who help impoverished people everywhere with only 39 cents or ahh so a day. Dame Shirley & Kate Magruder - Women and the Gold Rush

Aug. 5, 2020, 11:07 p.m.
When word that California had gold in its creeks and streams reached the United States of America in 1848, fortune seekers from all over the world soon began to arrive in California by boat, covered wagon, and on foot. Some people made their fortunes by selling provisions or services and very few actually found enough gold to take home. Louise Smith Clapp of Amherst, Massachusetts, using the name of Dame Shirley, wrote detailed and vivid descriptions of the life and ways of the gold seekers and of mid 19th century California. In this two-part program, we will talk to Dame Shirley in the person of Kate Magruder, a Chautauqua performer and participant with the California Council for the Humanities Sesquicentennial Project, Rediscovering California at 150. 1 Dame Shirley recommends The Complete Works of William Shakespeare. Kate Magruder recommends “Days of Gold,” by Malcolm Rhorbough & “The Shirley Letters,” by Dame Shirley. Originally Broadcast: March 16, 1999 & March 23, 1999

Donald Drumpf Theatre Volume 186 Delay The Election

Aug. 5, 2020, 9:58 p.m.
An original radio theatre show each week, with most sounds culled from the previous week, about a fictional, theatrical presidency. Contradictions tell the story, with songs, skits, and clips from political news shows and late-night comedy routines. The definition of "radio theatre" is stretched here, with an updated Dickie Goodman and/or Richard Foreman-meets-mashup style sometimes, and a more straightforward take other weeks. Currently airing on 30 or 40 stations around the world, the network has ordered another five months of episodes. Anyone who would like to work on a production, or have their work air in this timeslot, should contact info@wgxc.org.
