Rev. Barber - The Struggle for Voting Rights & the Poor People's Campaign

Nov. 9, 2018, 12:36 p.m.
Conversations in Black Freedom Studies: The Struggle for Voting Rights & the Poor Peoples Campaign with Rev. William Barber, a passionate preacher, anti-poverty activist, and civil rights leader. Barber has emerged as perhaps the most important figure in progressive U.S. Christianity. Prof. Cornel West, in a blurb for Barber's book The Third Reconstruction, said he was "the closest person we have to Martin Luther King, Jr. in our midst." In 1968 Martin Luther and Coretta Scott King championed the Poor Peoples Campaign to unite people of all backgrounds against oppressive government policies. Today, Rev. William Barber is leading a modern resurgence of the effort, challenging racism, voter suppression, poverty, militarism, and environmental devastation issues that continue to be at stake in the 2018 midterm elections

Letters from Langston: From the Harlem Renaissance to the Red Scare and Beyond

Nov. 9, 2018, 10:24 a.m.
Keynote talk by Dr. MaryLouise Patterson on the correspondence between playwrite, poet, author and racial justice activist Langston Hughes and her parents which she co-edited with Evelyn Louise Crawford whose parents were also part of the close circle of friends. Dr. Patterson earned her medical degree at Patrice Lumumba Friendship University in Moscow and a Masters of Public Health at the University of California - Berkley. She works to get medical care in under served schools, and she is part of many civil rights, social justice, and peace movements. Her parents close friendship with Langston Hughes is chronicled through the letters in the book which she co-edited with her childhood friend Evelyn Louise Crawford. They under took the project to make the correspondence available after discovering that, not only were letters from Langston Hughes to their parents among their parents things, but that the Hughes archive, housed at the Beinecke Library, Yale University, also contained their parents correspondence with him. Letters about their daily lives, his cultural work and the struggle to live without fear in racist times she can link directly to the repression and politics of today. She speaks to the relevance of past thoughts, shared among friends, on race, culture and politics and to their on going relevance to the struggle for racial justice today.

Right-Wing Political Singularity and the Ethical Nightfall of the American Republic

Nov. 9, 2018, 9:14 a.m.
4thWorldRadyo host @TheAngryindian and producer Lupe Morales return to the air (in a new studio) to address the admittedly White Racialist, European-settler social reality of the Trump administration and its conspicuous push to institute a corporate controlled White Nationalist nation-state within an ethnically-diverse United States of America. Discussion looks at European-American and Leftist acquiescence in the political world and the popular confusions surrounding the directions of Indigenous and African liberation movements in the 21st century. EXTRAS: The usual collage of pro-people, anti-violence political PSAs; forgotten archived news reports; more Sounds of Resistance and a special interview with an undercover agent active with the progressive Afro-American community during the COINTELPRO era. All this and much more on, 4WR. The official Internet radio broadcast of the Aboriginal Press News Service

The Anti-Federalists - Final

Nov. 8, 2018, 12:23 p.m.
In his fiery final essay, Centinel lays bare the attempts of the Founders and their tools to stifle dissent. They are hindering communications between those concerned about the new Constitution. Because the Federalists cannot use strength of arguments and substance, they lie, bully, steal, and bribe to achieve their aims. Centinel laments that the Postal Service is an effective tool for Federalist interceptions of mailings. Centinel demonstrates beyond a reasonable doubt the lack of support for the Constitution among Pennsylvania's population. He enumerates examples. He has the goods and lays out the arithmetic. He points out the Federalists' use of false surveys. Sadly, censorship and strong-arm tactics are depriving the population of facts about the new government. Centinel signs off by proclaiming his pride in maintaining anonymity. Many attempts have been made to learn his true identity. He mentions Committees of Correspondence as a way of bypassing the Post Office. Despite smear tactics aimed at Centinel, he has no regrets about is work and hopes it will yield positive results. A sad irony is that Anti-Federalists like Centinel - who are ignored today - had empathy toward their fellow citizens. The smooth-talking Founders worshipped today were but a mere shadow in comparison.
