Jonathan Cook discusses what Israeli apartheid has meant for Palestinian citizens of Israel

Jan. 28, 2017, 7:09 p.m.
Our feature presentation this week takes us back a bit. It's part 1 of a lengthy interview with British journalist Jonathan Cook, who lives and writes from Nazareth, a predominately Palestinian/Arab city in the north of Israel. This interview is about ten years old, and was done on the occasion of the publication of his book Blood and Religion: The Unmasking of the Jewish and Democratic State, but it continues to resonate because he goes into great detail describing the plight of Palestinians who live in the state of Israel and constitute some 20% of Israel’s citizens. Because the interview is too long for one broadcast we are splitting it between this week and next week's edition on This Week In Palestine. Before that, some discussion of recent attempts to resurrect the rotting corpse of the so-called two-state solution. How can people with any grasp of history, or sense of reality, continue to talk about a two state solution in Palestine/Israel? How can anyone who can read a map, or understand the essential qualities necessary to have and control, and guarantee the security of a state, consider such an option for Palestine under the current circumstances? Come on. That ship has sailed, yet world leaders from 72 countries (not including Israel nor Palestine, by the way) met in Paris on January 15th to try to again breathe life into the Two State option. We turn once again to Jeff Halper for commentary on the attempts to resurrect that corpse. Jeff, a former professor at Ben Gurion University, is one of the founders of the Israeli Committee Against House Demolitions. “Bad Faith and Futile Conflict Management” — that’s the headline Halper would give to the extraordinary events of the past few weeks: the vote in the UN Security Council condemning Israeli settlement; Kerry’s speech on the necessity of saving the two-state solution; Netanyahu’s reaction to both, and the Paris conference to save the two state solution. ...

Women's March on Washington - It's Stunning Size and Scope

Jan. 28, 2017, 1:31 p.m.
The Stunning Size and Scope of Women Across the Country Who Turn Out to Say We Wont Go Back "Welcome to your first day, we will not go away!" marchers in Washington chanted. More than 500,000 strong, women, many wearing pink hats, shaped like pussy ears lampooning Trumps misogynist assaults on women came to what they proclaimed to be the epi-center, Washington D.C. to express their repudiation of Trump, his administration and the Republican Partys corrosive rhetoric and retrogressive policies. The Washington rally was easily one of the biggest demonstrations in that city's history, and mirrored the outpouring of more than a million women who turned everywhere from New York, Philadelphia, Chicago and Los Angeles to Mexico City, Paris, Berlin, London, Prague and Sydney. "We march today for the moral core of this nation, against which our new president is waging a war," actress America Ferrera told the Washington crowd. "Our dignity, our character, our rights have all been under attack, and a platform of hate and division assumed power yesterday. But the president is not America. ... We are America, and we are here to stay." Youll hear from we the women, who came from near and far to express their beliefs and how theyre prepared to work towards their realization!
