Out of the Woods - Show #351 - 12-31-16
Dec. 22, 2016, 8:08 p.m.
This version of the program is divided into 6 segments so broadcasters who desire to use this content can insert your station info, etc. The segments vary in length.
Out of the Woods is an earthy, wires and wood, mostly acoustic program featuring some of the best new and established artists from the worlds of folk, bluegrass, singer-songwriters, alt.country, Americana, classic country, old-time, Celtic, and everything that falls in between. The show is an unpredictable mix flowing like a river between moods, often with an edge or in a melancholy minor key. On occasion, Out of the Woods features interviews and live in-studio performances with national and international touring musicians. Past guests have included artists such as Bela Fleck, Si Kahn, Brown Bird, Dana Robinson, Steve Gillette & Cindy Mangsen, Kate MacLeod, Bill Bourne, Karl Shiflett, Rachel Bissex, Darryl Purpose, Bow Thayer, Cosy Sheridan and many others. Out of the Woods grew out of Jon 'Chip' Colcord's former acoustic programs, The Song Swap and Music For The Mountain, separate folk and bluegrass programs which aired in New Hampshire during the 1990s. As a child, Colcord grew up a ravenous music fan with an ear for both rock and folk. All of these influences converge on Out of the Woods to bring you a mix which is as much on the edge as it is down home. Folk music with a rock 'n' roll soul

(REPEAT)The 2016 Democratic National Convention: Voices from the Streets of Philadelphia
Dec. 22, 2016, 5:18 p.m.
THIS IS A REPEAT EPISODE OF THE GLOBAL RESEARCH NEWS HOUR.
Host Michael Welch had a chance to visit Philadelphia at the time of the historic US Democratic National Convention the week from July 25 to July 28, 2016. His view from the ground outside the barricades revealed widespread hostility toward official nominee Hillary Clinton, favourable impressions of candidate Bernie Sanders and Green Party presidential nominee Jill Stein, and even allegations of wide-spread corruption throughout the Democratic primary election process. There were also non-partisan activities staged to coincide with the National Special Security Event.
In addition there was the appearance of policing irregularities which cast the convention under a constitutional fog.
On this special edition of the Global Research News Hour in the summer, we will hear some of those voices struggling to be heard in the midst of deceptive and manipulative mainstream media hype over Hillary. This episode first aired on August 5, 2016.

Episode 2016.06 - Propaganda and Fake News, We Are Trained to Believe Lies
Dec. 21, 2016, 8:56 a.m.
The morning was cold, the truth â colder, I walked briskly along the old apricot groove on the outskirts of town listening to a podcast, the host of which was losing his head over Donald Trumpâs support by fake news peddlers, I was perplexed. Why, I thought, would anyone raise their blood pressure by being upset about over Propaganda and Lies in the Media, didnât the Church Committee reveal the CIAâs willing subversion of a Democratic Press by planting stories and coopting writers? Didnât the 1994 telecommunications act assure a corporate dominated media apparatus tied to corporate industrial interests, which where predominantly opposite those sought by a Commonwealth Social Democratic society? And donât the big three News Outlets â MSNBC, CNN and FOX NEWS (the leader) regularly peddle false outrage over non-sense or more precisely present problems without solutions constantly? I knew the answer to those questions. In this Episode I donât pose those questions but like those three News Outlets, I do present many problems without solutions. Propaganda and Education, 2pacâs Assassination (briefly), Book Publishing and The Simpsons and several other interesting tidbits. Enjoy!

How does the melting Arctic affect the rest of the world?
Dec. 20, 2016, 6:16 p.m.
The Arctic is now warming twice as fast as the global average. That's the finding in the 11th Arctic Report Card released on December 13, 2016, at the annual American Geophysical Union meeting in San Francisco. NOAAâs Arctic Research Program Director, Jeremy Mathis, said about the year 2016: âRarely have we seen the Arctic show a clearer, stronger or more pronounced signal of persistent warming and its cascading effects on the environment than this year.â
The Arctic Report Card, by a team of 61 scientists from 11 nations, lists the many ways in which the warming Arctic affects sea level rise, ocean and air circulation as well as weather in the Northern Hemisphere and beyond.
The warming Arctic oceans lead to melting of permafrost on land and affect the Greenland ice sheet. A surprise for scientists was that a warming Arctic also changes the ocean currents in the Northern Hemisphere and even the wind currents.
NOAA, the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, has presented Arctic Report Cards for 10 years. The American Geophysical Union (AGU) is an organization of geophysicists from 144 countries. Geophysical sciences involve atmospheric and ocean sciences, as well as earth and space.
At the AGU on December 13, 2016, in San Francisco there was standing room only for the press conference that revealed the peer reviewed assessment of the Arctic Report Card 2016. NOAA Arctic Research Program Director Jeremy Mathis presented alongside Don Perovich, Adjunct Professor of Engineering, at Thayer School of Engineering, Dartmouth College, lead editor for the sea ice essay; and Marco Tedesco, Professor at Lamont-Doherty Earth Observatory, Columbia University, New York, and the lead editor for the Greenland ice essay.

Syria, Russia, Iran are the Good Guys in Aleppo
Dec. 20, 2016, 4:46 p.m.
The war in Syria is not a civil war, but rather a typical US war against independent countries. Researcher Stephen Lendman compares it to the dismemberment of Yugoslavia and the destruction of Libya.
Concerning Aleppo, Lendman says that East Aleppo was liberated from terrorists. However, the Western media demonizes the legal players in this fight, Russia, Syria, Iran, Hezbollah, and elevates the terrorists to the status of heroes.
Instead of celebrating the victory, UN Secretary General Ban Ki Moon condemned it. As Lendman explains, the UN role is that of a wholly-owned subsidiary of the United States. Symbolic of the misnamed "international community," France turned off the lights on the Eiffel Tower to show how dimly the 'former' colonial powers regarded the defeat of their proxy fighters.
