Women and people of color are disproportionately impacted by the poverty wages allowed under our current minimum wage laws: 45% of women (74.2 million), 59.7% of Black people (23.7 million), 64.1% of Latinx people (38 million), 40.8% of Asian people (8 million), and 58.9 percent of Native and Indigenous people (2.14 million), living in the richest nation in the world, are poor or low-income.

Their work on the frontlines during the pandemic must be recognized with an increase in the federal minimum wage of $7.25 ($2.13 for tipped workers) to $15/hour, which will be their first raise in over a decade. 750 poor people were dying each day before COVID. Their need for living wages, healthcare, and affordable housing is also a national emergency.
