The minimum rate is targeted at the likes of Google, Facebook and Amazon who make vast sums across the world but avoid paying tax in many countries by basing their operations in tax haven countries. Microsoft paid no corporate tax because it is âresidentâ in Bermuda. However the subsidiary which collects licence fees has no employees in Ireland other than its directors, despite the profits that are equivalent to three quarters of the GDP of Ireland. Rich nations have struggled for years to agree a way to raise more tax from large multinational companies, and US President Joe Biden is pushing for a minimum corporation tax rate of 15 per cent. Britain and many large European countries are pushing for companies pay more tax where they make their sales â not just corporation tax where they report their profits, or locate their headquarters. But that remains a sticking point with the United States, which wants an end to the digital services taxes which Britain, France and Italy have levied. The force says there has been âescalating criminality and antisocial behaviour (ASB)â at 39-40, 45 and 46 High Street  addresses which squatters have occupied over recent weeks. Number 39 was the first building taken over, in March 2021. Since then âinternal boundaries have been breachedâ, say police, and numbers 45 and 46 have also been occupied. A month-long closure order was put in place yesterday (Thursday, June 3) after local residents and business owners reported âaggressive and intimidating behaviour, violence, criminal damage caused to buildings both internally and externally, and graffitiâ.

Boom Supersonic will test fly its new faster-than-sound XB-1 jet in 2021 Aviation startup Boom Supersonic plans to fly a supersonic jet demonstrator in 2021, the company recently announced. The XB-1 demonstrator will be 71 feet (22 meters) long and made of carbon composite, allowing it to remain resilient to flying faster than the speed of sound, the company said in an October statement. The ultimate goal is to create an airplane that will fly Mach 2.2, or 2.2 times the speed of sound. âXB-1 is an important milestone towards the development of our commercial airliner, Overture, making sustainable supersonic flight mainstream and fostering human connection,â Boom founder and CEO Blake Scholl said in a statement. Antiparasitic drug Ivermectin kills coronavirus in 48 hours Around the world, scientists race to develop a vaccine or treatment against the coronavirus disease (COVID-19), caused by the severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2). Now, a team of researchers has found that a drug already available around the world can kill the coronavirus in a lab setting in just 48 hours. The drug, Ivermectin, an antiparasitic medicine, is an inhibitor of the virus SARS-CoV-2 in-vitro and can effectively cause a reduction in virus at 48 hours in cell cultures. The FDA-approved drug can be used for repurposing to treat patients affected by COVID-19, which has spread to 184 countries and territories. The researchers at Monash University in Melbourne, Australia, have published their study in the journal Antiviral Research, showing how this already widely-used drug may help combat the current global pandemic rippling across continents. The team worked with the Peter Doherty Institute of Infection and Immunity. They showed that Ivermectin reduced COVID-19 viral RNA present in cell culture by as much as 93 percent after 24 hours and by 99.8 percent after 48 hours, at around a 5,000-fold reduction in coronavirus RNA, hinting that the medicine can potentially eradicate the virus. âWe found that even a single dose could essentially remove all viral RNA by 48 hours and that even at 24 hours, there was a significant reduction in it,â Dr. Kylie Wagstaff of the Monash Biomedicine Discovery Institute, said. âIvermectin is very widely used and seen as a safe drug. We need to figure out now whether the dosage you can use it in humans will be effective â thatâs the next step,â Dr. Wagstaff added.

By around 1.20pm, the crowd had started to disperse from Parliament Square, heading up Whitehall past Leicester Square and towards Hyde Park. The Metropolitan Police Events Twitter account posted at around 4.30pm that certain roads around Shepherds Bush had been closed due to the ongoing demonstrations. In the early evening, a group staged a demonstration in the Shepherds Bush site of the Westfield shopping centre. At around 6.30pm, the Met said: âThe 3rd demo is now at Westfield and is causing significant disruption to the local community and businesses, police are at the location. âThe MPS strongly urge those who are taking part in this demo to go home. Failure to do so may result in enforcement action being taken.â
