An interview with Delhi-based environmentalist and policy researcher Devinder Sharma regarding the effects of mangrove destruction, shrimp farming and the tourism industry in Southeast and South Asia. Sharma argues that much of the devastation of the recent tsunami could have been prevented had the natural ecosystems stayed in-tact. He also sharply criticizes World Bank, IMF and neoliberal policies of local governments which promote destructive 'development' schemes that displace peoples from their land and devastate natural ecosystems.
