From GERMANY- Germany produces a weekly video series called Business Beyond- Going Behind The Headlines. This week the topic was Making A Killing: Who Profits From The Global Arms Trade. They discuss how much of the global export of weapons is about profit rather than national security. The invasion of Ukraine has stimulated a windfall for arms manufacturers. The US produces 37% of all weapons sold in the world. Corporations make the profit and the countries of origin must approve the sales. One fifth of the worlds children are living in active armed conflict, including in Yemen which is being attacked by Saudi Arabia, which gets 80% of its weaponry from the US. 110 states have signed the international Arms Trade Treaty- neither the US nor Russia have signed it.

From JAPAN- The US remains committed to the Indo-Pacific region even as attention is focused on Ukraine. The US has approved a potential deal to sell Patriot Missile equipment to Taiwan, including training and support- China is outraged. Australia, Britain, and the US are teaming up to develop hypersonic weapons. The head of the Japanese fisheries federation has reiterated firm opposition to the plan to dump treated, but still radioactive, water from the Fukushima nuclear power plant into the Pacific Ocean.

From FRANCE- A press review on how not everyone outside of Europe is supporting the the Ukrainians. Then an update on the third IPCC climate report saying there are less than 3 years to stop the rise in global CO2 emissions.

From CUBA- Peru imposed a curfew as citizens protested rising fuel and food costs, and extreme inflation. The Taliban announced a total ban on the production of opium.

"The corporate grip on opinion in the United States is one of the wonders of the Western world. No First World country has ever managed to eliminate so entirely from its media all objectivity - much less dissent."
