Part One – News Review and Investigative Reports

Bristol 24/7 article by Christine Townsend about Merchant Venturer run schools – ‘Medieval institution built on human exploitation’ has no place running schools Christine Townsend has reiterated her call for the Society of Merchant Venturers to stop their involvement in children’s schooling. The shadow cabinet member for education said that “the individuals who make an active choice to be members of this medieval institution, built on the exploitation and extortion of fellow human beings and the environment, are surely the most contemptuous and damaging ‘community’ in this city”. “To use a well-worn phrase, ‘in the name of God, go’,” wrote Townsend in an eviscerating member forum statement ahead of Tuesday’s full council meeting at City Hall – which she stressed was her personal opinion. Independent journalism “The years it has taken these people to get out of state schools has seen generations of our city’s children subjected to inadequate education, safeguarding risks, being made to engage in ritual worship of slave traders in Bristol Cathedral, their staff being subject to institutional racism, Venturers on a school governing body writing supportive character references for a senior staff member later found guilty of sexual crimes against a child, continuous unlawful admissions practices designed to filter year 7 intakes – and that’s just some of the stuff that has appeared in the press. “Only the children and families that attended these schools and were on the receiving end of these people’s attitudes and approaches can truly understand the contempt with which the Merchant Venturers treat the working classes and the levels of entitlement and arrogance within which they live their lives. “Getting out of our state school sector is only the beginning, these people must get out of our democracy entirely.” She added: “It seems as if any activity where public money can be turned into private profit ends up having the dirty fingerprints of Merchant Venturers all over it, their noses well and truly troughing in the public purse.” Christine Townsend is the shadow cabinet member for education and Green Party councillor for Southville – photo: Rob Browne Townsend’s comments come after Bristol West MP Thangam Debbonaire said in an interview with Bristol24/7 that the Society of Merchant Venturers “appears to me to be an unaccountable, undemocratic network which aims to control important decisions in our city from the shadows”. “They have no place in a modern, multicultural Bristol that welcomes everyone. I don’t want to see them have a role in running our schools.”

Merchant Venturers ‘shedding skin’ by merging the privatised Academy Schools they manage – A Level students turned away from Withywood Merchants Academy school – run by Merchant Venturers. Merchant Venturer Marti Burgess is on the board of local news site Bristol 24/7 – Merchant Venturers’ schools to be taken over by national academy chain – The controversial Venturers Trust, which runs eight schools in Bristol, will cease to exist after the ‘merger’ Venturers Trust controversies The multi-academy trust was formed in 2017 at the height of controversy over the Society of Merchant Venturers’ involvement in education, and the campaigns to get schools like Colston’s Girls’ School to drop its celebration and commemoration of the Bristol slave trader Edward Colston. At the time, the Merchant Venturers blocked moves to change the school’s name, and only did so after the Colston statue was toppled in 2020. Then, the man who had been headteacher of CGS back in 2017, John Whitehead, said the Society of Merchant Venturers were not fit to run any education establishment in the city. The involvement of the Society of Merchant Venturers in education in the city has long been the subject of controversy, as part of a wider concern about education inequalities within the city. A study in 2018 found that while 100 per cent of 18 year olds in Clifton go to university, just eight per cent in Hartcliffe and Withywood, where Merchants Academy is based, do the same. There was further pressure on the Venturers Trust in 2022 when a shock Ofsted inspection and report took Montpelier High School, which for all of the 2010s was widely recognised as the best or most sought-after state-funded school in Bristol, from ‘outstanding’ to ‘inadequate’. That controversy continued into 2023 when Ofsted returned and said the school had not improved enough, and was still a cause for concern.

Simon Fairlie and Gill discussing Monkton Wyld case. Monkton Wyld Ccourt Case.co.uk. Coup d’État at Monkton Wyld Court Operators of “Britain’s Oldest Microdairy” Ordered to Leave the Premises. The Land Magazine made Homeless. The head gardener at Monkton Wyld Court ordered to leave, “with immediate effect”. A failure to properly redact the names of witnesses to the HR Teams investigation has enabled us to obtain Incontrovertible evidence, that the HR Team misrepresented the statements given by these witnesses – On 9 May 2023, six trustees of Monkton Wyld Court, an educational charity managed by a long-standing intentional community, ordered two members of the community to leave. Gill Barron (73) and Simon Fairlie (72) have been living and working at MWC since 2010, when they joined the community to revive its flagging micro-dairy and neglected farmland. Five of the six trustees who ordered their departure have been trustees of the charity for less than four months. The trustees also coerced xxxxxx into resigning from the board of trustees. She had been a trustee for 15 years, and had spoken up in favour of Gill and Simon. Two other trustees have recently resigned. More recently our grower, Jasmine Hills, has been told to leave “with immediate effect” for no given reason. Five other people living and working at MWC are expected to leave in protest, and the community and charity are in meltdown. As a result the microdairy, which dates back to 1941 and is probably the oldest established dairy of its size in the UK will have to shut down. The Land magazine, a highly respected journal based at MWC, will have to suspend publication until it can locate new offices. Gill and Simon are accused by “WS”, a prospective member of the community on a six-month trial, of influencing community decisions through intimidation; but no evidence has been provided as to what decisions have been forced through in this way. Gill does not even attend meetings. They are also accused by the same complainant of bullying. The Anti-Bullying Alliance defines bullying as “The repetitive, intentional hurting of one person or group by another person or group, where the relationship involves an imbalance of power.” Nothing that Simon and Gill are alleged to have done in any way matches this description. In fact it is more accurate as a description of how the trustees have treated Simon, Gill and Jasmine over the last six weeks. Documentary film ‘Wyld’ in production about Monkton Wyld case.

We20 in India as an alternative to G20 – Indian Police stop conference – Morning Star report. Al Jazeera – report on G20. Indian police stop a conference of activists and academics discussing G20 issues ahead of summit Indian police have intervened to stop a meeting of prominent activists, academics and politicians discussing global issues ahead of a summit of the Group of 20 industrialized and developing nations due to be hosted in New Delhi. The Hindu newspaper cited police officer Sanjay Sain as saying that no police permission was sought for the meeting. “They had erected tents outside the building. And there was a considerable gathering of people in an area where Section 144 (prohibiting gatherings of four or more people) had been imposed,” Sain said. The organizer’s statement said police had also tried to disrupt the meeting on Saturday by preventing people from reaching the venue, but the program went on as scheduled. Jairam Ramesh, an opposition Congress lawmaker, said it is “extraordinary that Delhi Police are stopping people from attending the We20 meeting.” A. Raja, a leader of the Communist Party of India, said the police action was an attack on freedom of expression. We20 meeting organizers said the G-20 is a “popular networking event for the rich and powerful, under the pretense of saving the world.” The Indian government has mounted an advertising campaign ahead of the G-20 summit to showcase the country’s growing global clout under Modi, Communist Party of India (Marxist) leader Brinda Karat said. Critics also challenged the interests of the G-20 and whom it served to benefit. “The G20 is being organized to secure the corporate interests of a few. We need to work to secure our interests, our rights, our forests, our water,” said Roma Malik of the All India Union of Forests’ Working People.

Military Intelligence carrying out terror attacks for political gain 1: Al Jazeera report on The Troubles Bill. Northern Ireland. Families of Troubles victims launch legal challenges to Legacy Bill – A number of family members of victims of the Troubles have launched a High Court challenge to the Government’s controversial Legacy Bill. – The families, who all had relatives killed during the conflict in Northern Ireland, have lodged judicial review proceedings challenging the lawfulness of the legislation and its compatibility with international human rights standards. The Northern Ireland Troubles (Legacy and Reconciliation) Bill has been passed into law and is awaiting royal assent. The Bill will give a limited form of immunity from prosecution for Troubles-related offences to former terrorists who co-operate with a truth-recovery commission. It will also halt all future civil cases and inquests. The Bill was opposed by all major Stormont parties, victims’ campaign groups and the Irish government. Madden & Finucane Solicitors released a statement on Friday outlining that they would be challenging the legislation on behalf of family members of Kathleen Thompson, Gervaise McKerr, Gerard Casey, Sam Marshall, Pearse Jordan and Gerard and Rory Cairns, all of whom were killed in the Troubles. The statement also said that they intend to lodge applications to the European Court of Human Rights (ECHR) in Strasbourg. Relatives of a further three victims have lodged judicial review proceedings with the High Court, represented by Harte Coyle Collins Solicitors. The next of kin of Annette McGavigan, Thomas Burns and James (Jim) McCann lodged papers challenging all aspects of the legislation including the amnesty scheme. Billy Thompson’s mother Kathleen was shot dead by a member of the Royal Green Jacket regiment in Derry on November 6 1971 In 2022, a coroner rejected the evidence of a former soldier who killed Mrs Thompson and referred the matter to the Director of Public Prosecutions. Jonathan McKerr’s father Gervaise was shot dead near Lurgan on November 11 1982 when members of an elite firearms unit of the RUC fired more than 100 rounds into a car he was driving, killing him and his two passengers. All three were unarmed. An inquest into their deaths has never been concluded. In May 2001, the ECHR found the UK to be in breach of the European Convention on Human Rights because no effective investigation had ever been conducted into Mr McKerr’s death. Una Eakin is the widow of Mr Casey, who was murdered by loyalist paramilitaries on April 4 1989 in Rasharkin, north Antrim. Mr Casey had been threatened in Castlereagh in the 1980s and a legally held shotgun was seized by the RUC during a house raid six months before his death. In 2007, Mr Casey’s inquest verdict was quashed by the High Court and in July 2010 the Attorney General for Northern Ireland ordered a new inquest into his death. In 2022 the Police Ombudsman published a report which found “collusive behaviour” between security forces and loyalist paramilitaries in his murder. Linda Hewitt is taking the case for her brother Mr Marshall, who was murdered by loyalist paramilitaries on March 7 1990 in Lurgan, shortly after leaving Lurgan RUC station after signing bail. In a small urban area patrolled by at least 11 heavily armed undercover British soldiers on foot, in observation positions and in cars, two UVF men were able to enter the area, murder Mr Marshall and attempt to murder his two companions, and then safely withdraw unhindered. Teresa Jordan’s son Pearse was shot dead by the RUC on the Falls Road, Belfast on November 25 1992. In 2016 a coroner formally referred two former RUC officers to the Public Prosecution Service to consider whether they should be prosecuted for perjury or perverting the course of justice arising from their evidence to the inquest. A prosecutorial decision has not yet been taken. Eamon Cairns’ two sons Gerard and Rory were murdered in their home by the mid Ulster UVF in October 1993. In 2019 a loyalist paramilitary admitted on a BBC Spotlight programme that he and others had conspired to murder every male member of the Cairns household and that intelligence had been received directly from the RUC. In May 2023 a file was submitted to the Director of Public Prosecutions. May McGavigan’s sister Annette, a 14-year-old schoolgirl, was shot by the British army on September 6 1971 in Derry. The shooting is currently under investigation by the Legacy Investigation Branch of the PSNI. Patricia Burns’ father Thomas was shot by the British army on July 12 1972 when leaving the Glenpark Social Club in North Belfast. Mr Burns was an ex-serviceman who had served in the British Navy for 10 years and left behind his widow Kathleen and four young children Stephen, Patricia, John and Martin. In March 2023, the Attorney General for Northern Ireland directed a fresh inquest into the shooting. Responsibility for the shooting is not disputed by the Ministry of Defence. Daniel McCready’s uncle Mr McCann is alleged to have been shot by the British army on February 3 1973 in Belfast. Mr McCann was one of six people shot in what has become known as the New Lodge 6 shootings. In February 2021, the Attorney General for Northern Ireland directed that a fresh inquest take place. Taoiseach Leo Varadkar has said the Irish government is seeking legal advice on the possibility of taking an interstate case against the UK in relation to the Legacy Bill.

Military Intelligence carrying out terror attacks for political gain 2: C4 report on Sri Lankan Easter bombing. Sri Lanka’s Easter Bombings: Dispatches A Dispatches special reveals shocking new evidence on Sri Lanka’s deadly Easter bombings of 2019. High-placed whistle blowers allege top-level complicity by officials inside the Sri Lankan government. Sri Lanka appoints committee to probe Channel-4’s allegations on Easter bombings – 270 people, including 11 persons got killed and 500 suffered injuries in the attack – Sri Lankan President Ranil Wickremesinghe appointed a committee on Friday to probe allegations levelled by Channel-4 in its documentary based on Easter bomb attacks. According to reports, Wickremesinghe has appointed a committee headed by a retired Supreme Court Justice to probe the channel’s allegations. Daily Mirror reported that committee would be headed by retired SC Justice S.I. Imam. “A committee chaired by retired Supreme Court Justice S I Imam has been appointed by President Ranil Wickremesinghe to investigate ‘Channel-4’ allegations about the Easter attacks,” Daily Mirror reported. The publication reported that retired Air Force Commander ACM Jayalath Weerakkody and Harsha A.J. Soza PC are also part of the investigation committee. As many as 270 people, including 11 Indians got killed in the 2019 Easter terror attacks by an Islamist extremist group. UK’s Channel 4 aired a documentary titled Sri Lanka’s Easter Bombings – Dispatches’ alleging the involvement and complicity of certain government officials, including intelligence service chief Major General Suresh Sallay, in orchestrating the 2019 Easter suicide bombings. It called the attacks a “crafted act aimed at forcing a political change in favour of the Rajapaksa brothers”- a charge denied by them. The attacks that took place on April 21, 2019, were carried out by nine suicide bombers belonging to the local Islamist extremist group National Thawheed Jamaat (NTJ) linked to ISIS. A series of devastating blasts tore through three Catholic churches in predominant Catholic areas during the Easter Sunday mass and as many luxury hotels killing nearly 270 people, including 11 Indians, and injuring over 500. The attacks led to a significant political change in Sri Lanka. It has emerged that the then authorities had ignored prior intelligence on the attack by Indian intelligence agencies.

Queen Camilla running the show – for a weak king? Daily Telegraph: Behind the scenes it is the Queen who is running the show’ As this publication revealed last September, it was Camilla who insisted on the appointment of former newspaper executive Tobyn Andreae as the King’s new spokesman – a move that apparently even blindsided Sir Clive Alderton, the monarch’s long-serving private secretary. As one royal insider explained at the time: “I think there is a sense that behind the scenes, it’s largely the Queen who is running the show. She makes a lot more decisions than people think, especially with [former aide] Michael Fawcett out of the picture.” The departure of Mr Fawcett in November 2021 devastated the King, who was said to be so reliant on his former valet that he once declared: “I can manage without just about anyone, except for Michael.” But his absence from the royal court only appears to have strengthened Camilla’s position. “The King does have weaknesses and it’s fair to say that the Queen knows how to exploit them,” added the insider. “But it’s a bigger court now and the King has duties that can’t be ignored and that need the support of the Queen.”

Who is Alice Keppel? Camilla’s Ancestor was Mistress to King Edward VII Yes, Prince Charles’s great-great grandfather and Camilla’s great-great grandmother were an item. Although the torrid love triangle of Prince Charles, Princess Diana, and Camilla Parker Bowles promises to be season four of The Crown’s biggest scandal, for British history buffs, it is merely an example of history repeating itself. The now-Duchess of Cornwall was not the first to have an affair with a royal in her family. Her great-great grandmother Alice Keppel was famously the favorite mistress of King Edward VII. That’s right, Charles and Camilla’s great-great grandparents also had an illicit relationship. Alice Keppel was the toast of Edwardian society. Alice Frederica Edmonstone, who went by the nickname Freddie (or even, “flirtatious Freddie”) was born into a high-ranking family in 1868: her father was a Baronet and an admiral in the Royal Navy. She grew up in Duntreath Castle in Scotland and married Lieutenant-Colonel George Keppel, a British Royal officer, at 23. She was a renowned beauty with chestnut hair, a pale complexion, large blue eyes, a small waist, and a large chest—all features that were greatly coveted in “the naughties nineties.” Alice was also known for being an exceptionally kind person, even to her enemies. “She was luminous, resplendent… She not only had a gift of happiness, but she excelled in making others happy. She resembled a Christmas tree laden with presents for everyone,” her daughter Violet said. When Alice and George moved to London, they were part of the city’s top social circles and Alice began having affairs in order to move up the social ladder. The money and connections allowed her to thrive as a society hostess, which is how she met Prince Albert Edward in 1898 when he was 56 and she was 29. They stayed together for twelve years, through his coronation as King Edward VII until his death in 1910.

Is Camilla named after the fictional vampire ‘Carmilla’? King Charles and Queen Camilla’s Unusual Bedroom Arrangement Is Their ‘Secret to a Long Marriage’ King Charles III and Queen Camilla’s (formerly known as Camilla Parker Bowles, then Queen Consort) marriage is the second for both of them. But they have been married to each other longer than they were to their first spouses leaving some to wonder what the secret is to their marriage. Well, that just might be linked to their unusual bedroom arrangement. King Charles and Queen Camilla do not sleep together in the same bed or in the same room for that matter. “[Charles] has a room with a double bed, decorated to his own taste, then Camilla has her own room with a double bed, decorated just the way she likes it,” a friend of the king and queen told the Daily Mail. While that seems like an odd arrangement for some, it’s not uncommon with royal couples. “In England, the upper class always have had separate bedrooms. You don’t want to be bothered with snoring or someone flinging a leg around,” explained Queen Elizabeth II’s cousin Lady Pamela Hicks. As The Mirror noted, another reason for the arrangement may have to do with the king’s health as the monarch has suffered from back pain for years and sleeping alone in a bed makes things easier for him during the night. Moreover, royal expert Joshua Rom suggested that separate bedrooms may also have to do with the fact that the king and queen have such hectic schedules and are around so many people all the time that they prefer to relax separately. Some reports even claim that the arrangement is the “secret” to the pair’s “long-lasting marriage.”

Wesley Bear and Apasra from Bristol Acorn tenants union – Twitter @Acorn_Bristol – join Tony and Martin. Wesley on ITV. Withdrawal of Council Tax Reduction Scheme proposed by Bristol City Council in consultation. Thatcher – Poll Tax. Acorn will help prevent evictions. Tenants campaign group disrupts council meeting to defend proposed cuts to council tax benefit – Mayor Marvin Rees left the podium to chants of ‘shame’ – Tenants campaign group ACORN disrupted a full council meeting inside City Hall to oppose the mayor’s proposals to cut the council tax benefit. – Over 50 members assembled, with 20 standing up inside the chambers to disrupt the meeting, and 30 more setting up office in the foyer to collectively ring and text councillors to ask them to defend the benefit. Mayor Marvin Rees refused to answer calls to meet with ACORN to discuss the proposals, and left the podium to chants of ‘shame’ from the public gallery. Last week, 20 ACORN members disrupted the cabinet meeting five separate times and confronted the mayor directly as he adjourned the meeting and exited the council chambers, demanding that he meet with ACORN members to discuss proposed cuts. Again, the mayor refused to respond. Last month, ACORN launched their campaign to challenge proposals from Bristol Council to cut the city’s council tax reduction scheme, a key lifeline for over 23,000 households in the city on low incomes amidst the current cost of living crisis. This is the second time the Council’s Labour administration have proposed cuts to the support scheme, with ACORN leading a successful campaign against similar proposals in 2017. At a public meeting last month at Docklands Community Centre, over 40 ACORN members met to plan the first steps in a campaign to defend the support scheme. Several councillors have already committed to back the campaign. The council has launched a public consultation which runs until September 25, offering one option for keeping the scheme, and several others where low income families would pay potentially hundreds of pounds more in council tax each year. ACORN says that this does not represent a meaningful choice for Bristolians, and that the council is looking for a ‘rubber stamp’ for a decision already made. ACORN have published guidance encouraging Bristolians to fill out the consultation, advocating for a ‘no cuts’ response. Bristol resident Wesley, who currently relies on the reduction scheme, said: “I get a significant reduction, so it’s about an extra £125 I’d have to pay out, which is going to be difficult. I’ve got two children, a house to heat, food to eat. I really don’t know where I’d find that extra money.” ACORN member William, who receives the council tax benefit, said: “I’ve been homeless before, and this is likely to force me towards that again, it’s really scary.” Fellow member Rachel, who’s receiving the council tax benefit, said: “I’m currently receiving full council tax benefit as I’m registered disabled. If this was to be cut and I’d have to pay it, it would financially cripple me, plunge me into debt and cause serious anxiety.” The council announced that it would save £3 million by cutting the scheme. Yet ACORN members argue that efficiency savings could be found elsewhere.

RFK Jr. Bobby Kennedy on Tim Dillon show with his wife Cheryl Hines – average US wage earner can’t buy a house any more. Blackrock cash buyers ‘gazumping’ home bidders – RFK Jr. Names The Three Major Corporations He Thinks Control The World And How They’re Screwing Us Presidential candidate Robert F. Kennedy Jr. doubled-down on claims that three major corporations are destroying America during a Saturday interview on “The Tim Dillon Show.” RFK Jr. seems to be the only 2024 presidential contender who wants to take on the globalist elites attempting to eradicate the fundamental right to American freedom. And for some reason, no one is taking him seriously. While chatting with comedian-savant Tim Dillon, RFK Jr. doubled down on his analysis of BlackRock, State Street and Vanguard, whose leadership have made it almost impossible for young Americans to buy homes. As it becomes more difficult to own a property, the quality of career growth and family formation declines nationally. “Three giant companies, BlackRock, State Street, and Vanguard … who all own each other …”

CONGLOM-O, WE OWN YOU – RFK Jr. explained. “They’re the biggest companies in the world. Rich, and they … own, I think they own 88 percent of the S&P 500 … and now they’ve decided they’re going to buy every single family home in America. They’re on track now to control, to own the corporate control of 60 percent of the single family homes in America within six years.” These three companies operate under some type of shell corporation, RFK Jr. continued, and the purpose of their massive housing buy-up is to advance the Great Reset, and enact the will of the World Economic Forum. “You will own nothing, and you will be happy,” is the WEF’s Great Reset motto, and it’s coming to fruition right under our noses.

Lloyds Bank doing similar in UK – troubled mortgagees will have to rent their home off the bank and Buy-To-Let landlords are having to sell to the banks as interest rates and landlord taxes rise. Lloyds Bank to buy 50,000 homes as it aims to become one of UK’s largest landlords Lloyds Banking Group (LLOY.L) plans to become one of the UK’s biggest landlords, with targets to buy 50,000 homes by 2030, according to details in an internal job advert seen by the Financial Times. The move comes in conjunction with the bank’s recently launched Citra Living brand, a play that pushes it into the private home rental market. As low interest rates take hold, Lloyds has looked to diversify its offering away from traditional lending. A Lloyds spokesperson said: “As highlighted at launch, Citra Living will initially start small, with a focus on buying and renting good quality newly built properties. “This will be achieved by working alongside leading housebuilders to address the increasing demand for rental properties. The aim is to gradually provide incremental stock to the UK rental market over the coming years.” The bank will take a staged approach to its push into the property market and has recently signed a strategic partnership with property development firm Barratt Developments (BDEV.L).

Bobby Kennedy – DNC don’t want him to stand for election. Robert F. Kennedy Jr.: DNC “Rigging” Primary For Biden, I May Need To “Look At Other Alternatives” – Presidential candidate Robert F. Kennedy Jr. accused the DNC of disenfranchising Democratic voters from choosing the party’s presidential nominee and how the party’s rules are designed to hurt his campaign. ROBERT F. KENNEDY: It’s pretty clear that the DNC does not want a primary. I don’t want to say that they want a coronation but that’s I think that’s a fair way to put it actually. Essentially they are fixing up the process so that it makes it almost impossible to have democracy function. They’re effectively disenfranchising the Democratic voters from having any choice in who becomes president, the Democrat nominee. So two of the things they’ve done today is they’ve moved the Iowa primary, they made rules that if anybody campaigns in Iowa, or any candidate sets foot in the state of Iowa or sets foot in the state of New Hampshire, then none of the votes that are cast for that candidate will be tallied. In other words any delegate that I win in New Hampshire or Iowa would go instead to the president. Now they’re trying to change it so that if I campaign in New Hampshire that none of the votes cast for me in Georgia will count. That’s significant because it’s hard tow in the nomination without Georgia. They are rigging it so that you know effectively, we are looking at the tabulations now that look like if you add up all the super delegate that they control and all the automatic delegates that just go to the party and go to the president, I would have to win almost 80 percent of all of the states in order to beat President Biden even if he only wins 20 percent… If the DNC is going to make it, it’s going to rig it so that it is simply impossible for anybody to challenge President Biden, you know I need to look at other alternatives. Because I can’t go back to the people who support me and to my donors and say you know I’m in this to make a point. I need to show them a road to victory… I want to see what the DNC does. I want to see if they make it a fair contest. I’m not asking to make it a hundred percent fair, I’m asking that there at least be you know a chance that it’d be plausible for somebody else to win other than their you know chosen elected candidate.

Councillor emails reveal behind-the-scenes effort to reverse Broadwalk planning decision – Role of Development Control committee Chair, Councillor Richard Eddy, under scrutiny for working with Mayor’s Office to secure planning permission for developer – ’Blessed Margaret’ and The Smack of Firm Government – Like his performances in the Council Chamber, Eddy’s correspondence is peppered with stodgy attempts at humour and allusions to his self-image as an unabashed, straight-talking Thatcherite. For example: “Thank you for your email of today regarding the above – which reaches me on my sick-bed. (I don’t know what the ‘Blessed Margaret’ would think of Private Sector sorts raised in the 1980’s who succumb to sickness).” Stressing his “Private Sector” credentials to the developer’s agent once again, he enthuses over receiving an email from them on a Sunday, which has been sent to ask about the possibility of a meeting the following day. He combines this expression of enthusiasm with a jibe against council officers, characterising them as lazy: “You’re so Private Sector! It would be exceedingly rare I’d receive an email from a Council Officer early Sunday lunchtime. (It may amuse you that at licensing Committee on Thursday a Conservative colleague asked me, “Post-Covid, roughly how many people work at the Counal (sic) House?” Quick-as-a-flash, I answered: “Surely you mean are based or paid. And some work too!”)”. This is contrary to Bristol City Council’s Member Code of Conduct, which prohibits derogatory criticism of officers by councillors. Maintaining the bantering tone, the Savills employee replies: “don’t really know what goes on behind closed doors at the Council but, apart from some notable exceptions, I’m afraid your (sic) probably confirming our suspicions!”

US Class Action against Google. Standard Oil. United States takes on Google in biggest tech monopoly trial of 21st century – The United States government is taking on one of the world’s most powerful companies: Google.– A court battle kicks off on Tuesday in which the U.S. Justice Department will argue that Google abused its power as a monopoly to dominate the search engine business. It’s the government’s first major monopoly case to make it to trial in decades and the first in the age of the modern internet. The Justice Department’s case hinges on claims that Google illegally orchestrated its business dealings, so that it’s the first search engine people see when they turn on their phones and web browsers. The government says Google’s goal was to stomp out competition. “This lawsuit strikes at the heart of Google’s grip over the internet for millions of American consumers, advertisers, small businesses and entrepreneurs beholden to an unlawful monopolist,” said former Attorney General William Barr when the case was first filed in October 2020. Now nearly three years later, with millions of pages of documents produced and depositions from more than 150 people, the case is going to trial. How the internet is run is at stake The government’s case challenges how tech companies are able to amass power and control the products people now use daily in their lives. The outcome of the case could change how tech giants are able to do business and, in effect, how the internet is run. Google, which is worth $1.7 trillion, controls around 90% of the U.S. search engine market. It’s put together a massive legal team and brought on outside law firms to help fight its case. The company says its search product is superior to competitors and that is why it dominates the industry. Google says if people don’t want to use its search engine, they can just switch to another.

Al Jazeera report – attack on Russian Naval base in Crimea. PMQs can British Army defeat Russia in battle? British missiles used todestroy Russian Black Sea Fleet Naval Vessels in Sevastapol – Satellite Images Reveal Aftermath of ‘Storm Shadow’ Hit on Crimea Shipyard New satellite images show the aftermath of Ukraine’s strike on a Russian naval base in Crimea on Wednesday, marking one of the most significant assaults on Russia’s Black Sea fleet in the more than 18 months of all-out war. The images, captured on Tuesday and Wednesday, show what appears to be damage to the vessels in the dry dock. Newsweek has reached out to the Russian Defense Ministry for comment via email. On Wednesday, Ukraine launched 10 cruise missiles at Russia’s naval facilities in Sevastopol, with Russian air defenses intercepting seven of the missiles, Moscow’s Defense Ministry said. Ukraine also used three uncrewed naval drones against Russian ships in the Black Sea, the Kremlin added. This before image shows the Sevastopol base before Ukraine’s strike, which marked one of the most significant assaults on Russia’s Black Sea fleet in the more than 18 months of all-out war. Planet Labs PBC Ukraine used British-supplied Storm Shadow air-launched cruise missiles in the attack, Britain’s Sky News reported, citing a Western and Ukrainian source. The missiles, which Ukraine can launch from its combat aircraft, have a range of more than 150 miles, and France has also sent its version of the Storm Shadow. Lieutenant General Mykola Oleshchuk, the head of the Ukrainian Air Force, said in a post to social media that he wanted to thank Ukraine’s pilots “for excellent combat work.” The missile strikes damaged Moscow’s Rostov-on-Don submarine—thought to be the first Russian submarine hit during the war—and the Minsk landing ship at the Ordzhonikidze shipyard, Ukraine’s military intelligence agency told Ukrainska Pravda. Ukraine has increasingly targeted Russia’s Black Sea Fleet in Crimea, which Moscow has controlled since it annexed the peninsula in 2014. Kyiv has vowed to reclaim the territory to the south of mainland Ukraine, and has upped attacks on Russia’s bases and key bridges connecting the peninsula to Russia in recent months. Moscow has used Crimea to launch attacks on Ukrainian territory throughout the war, including cruise missile strikes. Taking out one Kilo-class Russian submarine in Crimea “won’t materially affect Russia’s ability to launch cruise missile attacks from the Black Sea,” according to Frederik Mertens, a strategic analyst with the Hague Center for Security Studies.

Skripal handler. Skripal affair. Christopher Steel on BBC an ‘expert’ on Ukraine’s lack ammunition in the NATO proxy war on Russia. So who is thisso-called ‘expert’? Christopher Steele, former MI6 officer – author of 2016 Trump election fixing Steel Dossier -The Steele Dossier is a collection of lies which contains allegations of misconduct and conspiracy between Donald Trump’s presidential campaign and the Government of Russia during the 2016 United States presidential election. Campaign members and Russian operatives allegedly colluded to interfere in the election and benefit Trump. The dossier contained the infamous pee tape allegations, which claimed Donald Trump had a urine-soaked run-in with Russian sex workers while staying in the presidential suite at the Ritz-Carlton in Moscow, which then again was filmed by Russian secret services as blackmail material. – MI6 connection – Analyst Ludwig De Braeckeleer[10] pointed out that the Mueller Report ignores the following facts on the role the Steele dossier and MI6 played in the Russiagate hoax: Christopher Steele met with the FBI’s Peter Strzok in July 2016. During the summer of 2016, Robert Hannigan, then head of GCHQ, flew to Washington to brief John Brennan personally. CIA Director John Brennan then briefed Senate Minority leader Harry Reid in August 2016 on the Steele dossier. By this process of washing dubious information, this briefing then led Reid to send FBI Director James Comey a letter demanding an investigation of the collusion between Donald Trump and the Russians. The Steele dossier was also a key foundation for the FISA warrant issued to spy on Trump’s close aide Carter Page, in the hope of finding incriminating information, or getting Page to prejudice himself in police interviews by giving statements conflicting with the tapes. FBI – When the FBI received the dossier from Steele in 2016, they willingly played along in the fabrication by cutting a number of corners in the verification process. Senior FBI analyst Brian J. Auten was responsible for vetting the Steele-dossier. But during a 2020 review of Auten’s procedures, Inspector General Michael Horowitz discovered that when Auten interviewed “Steele’s primary sub-source” in January 2017 about the Steele-dossier, the source disavowed key allegations in the dossier, and told Auten that Steele “misstated or exaggerated” information he conveyed to him in multiple sections of the dossier. According to the 2020 Inspector General’s report, Auten stated he wasn’t concerned about Steele’s anti-Trump bias or that his work was commissioned by Trump’s political opponent, calling the fact he worked for Hillary Clinton’s campaign “immaterial.” [11] Source – In July 2020, the identify of the primary source for Christopher Steele was revealed by the Wall Street Journal. The main source was Igor Danchenko, a Russian-born analyst living in the United States, who had worked for five years at the Brookings Institution as a Russia analyst. Noticably, he is directly linked to prominent Democrats closely tied to Hillary Clinton, in particular, Strobe Talbott, the leader of Brookings[12].

Poisoned spy Sergei Skripal asked Putin for pardon so he could return to Russia, friend claims = ‘Many people shunned him. His classmates felt he had betrayed the Motherland,’ says Vladimir Timoshkov – Vladimir Putin dismisses ‘nonsense’ of Russian involvement in Salisbury poisoning Former Russian double agent Sergei Skripal had written to Vladimir Putin asking if he could return to his home country before he was poisoned in Salisbury, a friend has said. The former Russian intelligence officer, who came to Britain in 2010 as part of a spy swap, regretted being a double agent and wanted to be pardoned so he could visit his family in Russia, Vladimir Timoshkov told the BBC. Mr Skripal and his daughter Yulia remain in a critical condition after they were poisoned with the nerve agent Novichok on 4 March. Recommended The 66-year-old had been accused of working for MI6 over several years, in particular disclosing the names of several dozen Russian agents working in Europe. He was sentenced to 13 years in a high-security prison in August 2006, before being freed in the 2010 deal which saw 10 Russian sleeper agents expelled from the United States. According to Mr Timoshkov, his friend, who he had known since school, Mr Skripal did not see himself as a traitor as he had sworn an oath to the Soviet Union. “Many people shunned him. His classmates felt he had betrayed the Motherland,” he said. “In 2012 he called me. We spoke for about half an hour. He called me from London. He denied he was a traitor… [he told me] he wrote to Vladimir Putin asking to be fully pardoned and to be allowed to visit Russia. His mother, brother and other relatives were [in Russia].” The Kremlin later issued a denial that any such letter was sent to the Russian President. The attempted assassination sparked a diplomatic crisis between Russia and Britain, which has been supported by its allies in apportioning blame to the Kremlin. At least six countries in Europe are understood to be considering the expulsion of Russian spies after the EU took the lead and announced it would recall its ambassador to Moscow.

The Alternative Skripal Narrative – by Michael Antony for The Saker Blog – The recent titbit fed to us by Bellingcat (reputedly close to MI6) that a third Russian agent was booked on the flight from Heathrow to Moscow on the night of 4th March 2018 — the flight taken by the two alleged GRU officers filmed in Salisbury — but didn’t show up for it, has pointed to a possible solution to the baffling Skripal puzzle. What if the third man, or perhaps the man who was supposed to take his place, was by then lying in Salisbury Hospital in a coma from opiate poisoning? What if Sergei Skripal was a triple agent trying to escape back to Russia to tell the world the truth about the Steele Dossier, which he had helped to concoct as a scurrilous, obscene joke and which had unexpectedly become the new bible of the insane war party in Washington? This is the alternative narrative I will set out in detail here so that the reader can judge whether it forms a more plausible and coherent story than the mishmash of improbabilities, absurdities and contradictions served up by the British police and MI6. Of course in the absence of all the facts we must sometimes use imaginative reconstruction to fill in the gaps, but the point is to see how many thorny problems, raised by the facts we do have, can be solved by this narrative and cannot be solved by the official one. It is not necessary to decide whether Skripal was a triple agent from the start (that is, a plant sent across in a spy swap, a classic Cold War way of infiltrating the enemy) or whether he became a triple agent when he realized how important this grotesque Steele Dossier had become and how much the Russians would pay him to come back and demolish it. What evidence there is (his phone call in 2012 to his old school friend, Vladimir Timoshkov, whose account of it three weeks after the poisoning gained widespread UK media coverage) suggests he started out as a purely mercenary traitor. Disillusioned by the collapse of the USSR into a gangster capitalist state run by Yeltsin’s mafia cronies, he decided he might as well profit from it by selling the corpse of what had once been his country to the highest bidder. The Russians didn’t seem to think of him as much more than a common criminal (only worth a moderate 13-year sentence, instead of the death penalty he would have got in the USA for betraying 300 agents) or they wouldn’t have let him survive six years in their prison. Perhaps when they exchanged him in the spy swap they gave him a wink and said: “Since you’re just a money-grubbing whore, any time you want to come back with some interesting stuff learned from working for MI6, let us know and we’ll discuss the price.” He soon got to learn that interesting stuff when he was sent to Salisbury, the home town of his MI6 recruiter and handler, Pablo Miller. Miller had recruited him in Spain in 1995 and later handled him from Estonia, when he was posted there as a diplomat. It is a little too much to believe Skripal’s move to Salisbury was a coincidence. The two men became friends again, met regularly in the pub, and there is every reason to think Miller resumed his role as handler. Miller was now working for Christopher Steele, his old boss at MI6, in his private intelligence firm, Orbis Business Intelligence, based in Mayfair. This is one of the private intelligence-gathering outfits run by ex-spies of the kind Litvinenko used to work for. Just as Litvinenko got Lugovoy (his accused assassin) to help him out with due diligence reports on Russian businessmen because of his more up-to-date information, so Miller would have used Skripal in the same way. His help became vital when Steele got the commission from the Democratic Party to dig up Russian dirt on Donald Trump, and they had to invent some GRU set-up of the Donald with prostitutes in a Moscow hotel. Miller, the old Russia hand, would have done a good part of the work on this dossier and would have needed all the authentic detail his Russian agent could provide. Perhaps it was Skripal who came up with the scenario of Trump getting prostitutes to urinate on the bed the Obamas had slept in, which hidden cameras filmed. He must at least have given it his imprimatur as a typical GRU blackmail ploy to turn somebody into an asset. And that obscene fiction, the core of the Steele Dossier, became the basis of the neo-con legend that Trump was a Russian stooge — the insane underpinning of the whole mad Mueller probe into “Russian collusion”. When Sergei the mercenary realized the vast importance this farcical, obscene Steele Dossier had taken on, that it was gospel truth for the whole anti-Trump, anti-Russia war party in Washington, he began to see how much it might be worth to the Russian state to blow it sky-high. If he were to describe on a prime-time Russian talk-show how he invented these obscene details over a beer with Miller and Steele in a pub, it would not only have all of Russia rolling on the floor with laughter. Heads would roll in Washington. The neo-con war party would become a laughing-stock. MI6 would be run out of town. Steele might face FBI perjury charges. The CIA might have its budget cut. Trump would be able to talk to Putin again. And the rewards for Sergei might be considerable. Not only seeing his 90-year old mother again, but perhaps even a swanky villa with a sea-view in Crimea or Sochi instead of that dank, shabby row-house in darkest Salisbury……

Flood in Libya – dam not maintained since fall of Gaddafi. Libya flood: fury that warnings of lack of essential maintenance, since NATO toppled Gaddafi, went unheeded – Authorities tried to repair the dams above Derna as far back as 2007, when a Turkish company was awarded a contract to work on them. In his report, hydrologist Ashour cites an unpublished 2006 study from the Water Resources Ministry on “the danger of the situation.” But in 2011, Libya’s long-serving ruler Muammar Gaddafi was toppled in a NATO-backed uprising and civil war, and for years after Derna was held by a succession of militant Islamist factions, including Al Qaeda and Islamic State. When hydrologist Abdul Wanis Ashour began researching the system of dams protecting the eastern Libya port town of Derna 17 years ago, the peril facing residents was already no secret, he said. “When I gathered the data, I found a number of problems in the Derna Valley: in the cracks present in the dams, the amount of rainfall and repeated floods,” he told Reuters. “I found also a number of reports warning of a disaster taking place in the Derna Valley basin if the dams were not maintained.” Advertisement · Scroll to continue In an academic paper he published last year, Ashour warned that if the dams were not urgently maintained, the city faced a potential catastrophe. “There were warnings before that. The state knew of this well, whether through experts in the Public Water Commission or the foreign companies that came to assess the dam,” he said. “The Libyan government knew what was going on in the Derna River Valley and the danger of the situation for a very long time.” Advertisement · Scroll to continue This week, the “catastrophe” that Ashour had warned of in the pages of the Sebha University Journal of Pure & Applied Sciences, unfolded just as he said it would. On the night of Sept. 10, the Derna Wadi, a dry riverbed most of the year, burst the dams built to hold it back when rains pour into the hills, and swept away much of the city below. Thousands of people are dead and thousands more still missing. Abdulqader Mohamed Alfakhakhri, 22, said he made it to the roof of his four-storey building and was spared, watching as neighbours on their own rooftops were washed out to sea: “holding their phones with lights on and shaking their hands and screaming.” With the bodies still being gathered from underneath flattened buildings and the seashore where they have been washing up, many Libyans are angry that warnings were ignored that could have possibly prevented the worst disaster in the country’s modern history. “A lot of people are responsible for this. The dam wasn’t fixed, so now it’s a disaster,” said Alwad Alshawly, an English teacher who had spent three days burying bodies as a rescue volunteer, in an emotional video uploaded to the internet. “It is David Cameron’s human error, and no one is going to pay a price for it.” Spokespeople for the government in Tripoli and the eastern administration which governs Derna did not immediately respond to requests for comment.

Kosovo parliament – water bun fight. Kosovo PM ‘can’t remove ethnic Albanian mayors’ May 31, 2023 Kosovo Prime Minister, Albin Kurti, said on Wednesday (May 31) that he does not intend to remove elected ethnic Albanian mayors from their positions in the Serb-populated northern part of Kosovo. Days of unrest have prompted NATO to send additional troops there to stave off violence. – – – Mass brawl breaks out in Kosovo parliament over Pinocchio picture and water toss Opposition MP splashes Prime Minister Albin Kurti as he was giving a speech. Kosovo Prime Minister Albin Kurti was doused with water by a rival lawmaker while he addressed Parliament | AFP via Getty Images A brawl erupted in the Kosovo parliament Thursday after an opposition lawmaker threw water from a bottle on Prime Minister Albin Kurti during a speech. In video footage from the incident, a member of parliament can be seen walking up to Kurti, water bottle in hand, while the prime minister is addressing the room from the podium. The MP, identified as Mergim Lushtaku from the opposition Democratic Party of Kosovo by local media, goes on to splash water in Kurti’s face and that of his deputy, Besnik Beslimi, triggering a brawl as ministers and other MPs jumped in to restrain Lushtaku. According to local news website Kallxo, the row began after opposition MPs placed a picture showing the prime minister with an elongated, Pinocchio-like nose in front of the podium before Kurti’s speech. Beslimi had removed and torn up the picture while Kurti was speaking.
