Detailed Summary: A look at homelessness in America - particularly in places such as New York City, where police crackdowns on vagrants and the homeless are increasing at the same time that entrance requirements for shelters are becoming more stringent. We also examine progress towards reducing homelessness, and discuss alternatives to the ubiquitous shelter system. With Patrick Markee of the New York City Coalition for the Homeless, Galen Tyler of the Kensington Welfare Rights Union in Philadelphia, and Brian McLaughlin of the Client Advisory Group, a New York City homeless advocacy organization.
