A collaboration with Blu Magazine (www.blumagazine.net) for Women's History Month.
Producer: Andrew Zimmerman Uploaded by: Andrew Zimmerman
To commemorate International Women's Day (March 8), Bruderhof Radio teams up with Blu Magazine to feature five women who are fighting not only for their own rights as women, but also for the human rights of all people. In a series of interviews with Blu editor Marianne Mommsen, these women spoke about the intersection of their lives, their work, and their art. We'll hear from Angela Davis, a longtime activist and critic of the prison industrial complex; Yuri Kochiyama, another aging activist who worked with Malcolm X; Medusa, a Los Angeles-based hip hop artist and community organizer; Rha Goddess, a singer/songwriter/activist in the New York City area; and Sonia Sanchez, a poet and spoken word artist. Medusa and Rha Goddess also share tracks from their recent albums. This program is a co-production with Blu Magazine (www.blumagazine.net), a magazine of political and spiritual activism, and a sister media project of Bruderhof Radio. All of the comments heard on this program can be read in full in the March/April 2000 issue of Blu Magazine, also titled "Women in Struggle."
