Dr. Arnold Schecter is one of the world's foremost dioxin scientists. As the Broome County Commissioner of Public Health, he spearheaded the investigation and data gathering effort that followed the transformer fire at the State Office Building in Binghamton, New York, USA. His strength of character in setting forth the true facts of this catastrophic dioxin release resulted in the loss of his position as Commissioner of Health. Broome County's loss was the world's gain. Free to pursue his growing interest in dioxins and health, Dr. Schecter has contributed a vast amount of research effort to building much of the knowledge we now have concerning dioxins. At the center of his research is the analysis of foods for dioxin and other persistent hydrocarbon pollutant contamination. Dr. Schecter explains that these pollutants are found at the highest levels in foods that contain animal fat: meats, dairy products, eggs and fish. He recommends that regulatory measures be taken to bring an end to an animal feed production practice in which animal fat is utilized in the production of feeds for cattle, poultry, hogs and fish.
