The St. Regis Mohawk Tribe Environmental Division recently conducted a benzene study that measured benzene concentrations at various locations on the St. Regis Reserve in Northeastern New York State. Upon analysis of this data, the Environmental Division concluded that mobile sources and gas stations were major sources of the benzene to which residents were being exposed. Angela Benedict-Dunn, who works for the Environmental Division in the Air Quality section describes the educational outreach that has been mounted to reduce benzene emissions.
