Marilyn Howell, Phd
 janie rezner  Contact Contributor
Marilyn Howell received a doctorate in education from Harvard Universtiy. . She taught at Brookline High School for three decades and created and developed the first mind body course in public education. Marilyn Howell's poignant account of losing her daughter, Mara to colon cancer is also a harrowing view of the U.S. cancer treatment system. Mara was diagnosed with State 3 colon cancer at the age of 32, which quickly progressed into Stage 4. Mara's courage and determination to battle the cancer are inspirational, but the cancer's progression was unstoppable, and the strong-willed determination that kept her alive began to prevent her from accepting her impending death and come to peace with it. As the pain and suffering grew, and the end drew near, Mara and Marilyn decided to explore the possibilities of psychedelic psychotherapy to ease Mara's final days. Published by the non profit, Multidisciplinary Association for Psychedelic Studies (MAPS) Honor thy Daughter makes a compelling case against the 40-year ban on research into psychedelic psychotherapy, especially as it relates to end-of-life issues.
"One of the most important fruits of the 21st Century will be the acceptance of the therapeutic use of psychedelics to ease physical and existential pain and to provide a deeper understanding and acceptance of death. Honor Thy Daughter provides a glimpse of this use.: Ram Dass, spiritual teacher
