This week's show features stories from Spanish National Radio, Radio Deutsche-Welle, the Voice of Russia, Radio Havana Cuba, and NHK World Radio Japan.
From SPAIN- The story of Edward Snowden, who exposed the NSA for tracking phone calls and internet use of all Americans, was on every international broadcaster. SNR included parts of the interview Snowden did with the Guardian, so we will hear that version. The Greek government has shut down the public broadcast system in the country, claiming it is an austerity measure. Protests in Turkey have gotten increasingly violent as the government refuses to listen to their demands, and lawyers are the latest wave of protestors as this goes to air.
From GERMANY- In light of the NSA revelations, the EU wants US assurances that the rights of European citizens are respected. Lawmakers in Russia passed bills that ban giving children any information on homosexuality and punishing anyone offending religious feelings.
From RUSSIA- The US has increased economic and diplomatic pressure on Iran, right on the eve of a Presidential election. How well these sanctions affect Iran is in question.
From CUBA- Venezuelan President Maduro got a gun control and disarmament bill passed unanimously. Colombian paramilitaries were captured in Venezuela last week accused of plotting an assassination and civil unrest. Colombia's attempt to join NATO is seen as a threat to left-wing governments in Latin America.
From JAPAN- It has now been determined that fish off the coast of the Fukushima disaster absorbed a large amount of radioactive material, 380 times the government allowed level of cesium. The removal of spent fuel rods from the Fukushima nuclear plant has been accelerated- they hope to begin in 2020! A survey shows that nearly half of the Fukushima evacuees are afraid to ever go back to their hometowns.

There is an article about the Shortwave Report by Cassandra Roos on line -

I was interviewed for an informative weekly radio show Mediageek, available at

All that plus times and frequencies for listening at home. It's free to rebroadcast, please notify me if you're airing it and haven't notified me in the last month, please mention the website if you only air a portion. If you just want to listen and have a slow connection, try the streaming version- lower sound quality but good enough and way easier if you don't have a high-speed internet connection. If streaming is a problem because of your slow connection, download the smaller file- it takes 20 minutes or less, and will play swell in any mp3 player application (RealPlayer, Winamp, Quicktime, iTunes, etc) you have on your computer.
NEW TIME SLOT on KZYX! This program will be aired on Sunday afternoon at 4pm (PDST) on KZYX/Z Philo CA, you might be able to stream via < >

I hope you'll listen and air this if you're connected with a radio station. I am still wondering how to get financially compensated for the 25 hours I put into this program weekly- any ideas are appreciated. Any stations rebroadcasting this (or listeners) are welcome to donate for production costs. You can do so through the website. Many thanks to those that have donated! No Guilt! (maybe a little)
