Richard A. Whiting is probably best known for the song “Too Marvelous For Words” and for being the father of the great pop singer Margaret Whiting. But here we listen to some of the less famous but equally worthy songs of this wonderful composer, which comprise a journey from the middle east to the far east to the Hawaiian islands, and, lastly back home. You’ll hear such major hits of the jazz age as “Japanese Sandman” (done in a special concert arrangement with a singer who sounds exactly like Bing Crosby) and “Ukulele Lady” (by the songwriter’s sister in law, Margaret Young, and a major star of the 1920s). Also featuring Maurice Chevalier, Ethel Merman, Leon Errol, Al Bowlly, Nora Bayes, The Revelers and many others.
