This week Back in the USSR once again speaks with Brendan Campisi about human rights in the Soviet Union and in particular about how the world's first socialist state empowered women and working people to a degree never before seen in the modern era. From the encouragement of adult education, to ensuring universal paid maternity leave and childcare, to setting up trade unions with the power to hold managers accountable in every economic enterprise, the USSR made sure that the rights of workers and women were not just words on paper. Note that this discussion draws heavily on the book "Human Rights in the Soviet Union" by Albert Szymanski, which is available for free online and which you all should definitely check out.
