Monica James, an African American, transgender woman, who resisted police violence, and then testified to the U.N. in Switzerland in 2014 speaks about her experience; the abuse she experienced from Chicago police because of her gender identity and her struggle to be a productive loving member of her community. She mentions the impact that Black Panther activist Assata Shakur had on the direction of her own life after reading of her struggle for justice.

The Rasmea Odeh awards were named for Chicagoâs iconic Palestinian community leader, Rasmea Odeh, who recently won an important victory in court.
